This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the general maintenance of the interior and exterior of the building and grounds areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Repair and maintain building surfaces, structures, property and operating equipment as directed by the Facilities Director. 2. Maintain pool and filter areas. 3. Inspect, clean and maintain custodial equipment. 4. Assist Facilities Director in the quality control of building cleanliness and perform cleaning and custodial duties as needed. 5. Paints premises and performs construction restoration projects as directed by the Facilities Director. 6. Interact with other departments and set up for meetings or special events. 7. Report to the Facilities Director any damage to property or needed repairs. 8. Sets up, takes down, and stores program equipment as needed and consistently. 9. Shovel snow, clear and salt sidewalks in inclement weather. 10. Remain accessible and on-call for building emergencies as a back up to the Facilities Director. 11. May occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, extended hours including evenings/weekends to meet project deadlines. 12. Attend all required meetings and trainings. 13. All other duties assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must have a minimum of three years experience in building maintenance with a skilled background in one or more of the various trade disciplines (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, and energy management). Must have the ability to operate maintenance equipment or willingness to acquire the necessary skills. Possess thorough knowledge of building cleaning to include disinfection, carpet care, tile and hard floor maintenance, wood floor care, and cleaning equipment maintenance are major components of this position. Must possess strong organizational skills as well as excellent communication skills. Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with fellow staff members. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
