U.S. Military Academy Instructor / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor in West Point, New York

Summary About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities. Responsibilities You will conduct research and analysis of strategic counterterrorism issues for the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC). Instruct classes in the CTC Terrorism Studies Program. Applicants must be confident in public speaking and teaching skills. Teach in the Practitioner Education Program to provide government personnel with the education and intellectual tools they need to understand and combat terrorist threats. You will support the personal growth and professional development of cadets in and out of the classroom as a role model for future leaders of the Nation. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens and Non-Citizens with Allegiance to the United States This is a full-time Term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Master's Degree is preferred) in Security Studies, Political Science, Public Policy, and Sociology or a closely related field; 2) Ability to research and publish in a discipline relevant to political violence; 3) Demonstrated ability to teach, communicate, advise, and mentor cadets in United States Military Academy (USMA) in and out of the classroom; 4) Ability and experience in intelligence or interagency environment working in counterterrorism field is highly preferred; Education Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework. Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule.
