Job Description

The Thermal & Hydraulic (T&H) Design unit at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to join our team to support the design and build of the future Component Test Complex (CTC), a state-of-the-art testing facility.  Come work with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers, equipment vendors, and construction contractors to deliver several new and innovative T&H testing systems!

More about the role: *  Perform fluid-mechanical system and hardware design, ASME code calculations, piping flow and flexibility analyses, equipment selection and procurement, as well as oversee testing system installations in the Component Test Complex *  Incorporate new technologies in the existing T&H testing labs to gain and apply hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting new and existing systems. *  Act as a pivotal member of the team delivering one-of-a-kind testing systems that will serve the Naval Reactors program for decades to come.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or  Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.

Preferred Skills

Applied knowledge of pressure equipment, ASME B31 series, and fluid/mechanical system design and operations in industry is a plus. Motivation to pursue advances in technology, make decisions, and deliver results. Experience using 3D CAD software packages to evaluate suitability of a design based on functional requirements, design codes, and constraints (budget, physical space available, interferences, etc). Previous work supporting test facilities and infrastructure to select, maintain, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical devices (valves, pumps, heaters, heat exchangers, flow meters, pressure vessels) Proven ability to deliver complex projects and collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplined team in a leadership role. Provides direction to supervision and project management on project plans and processes to identify and manage risks and improve methods and cycle times. Willing to coach and mentor others for technical development. GPA of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale

Pay Range $91,500 - $143,000 annually Note the salary information provided above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
