Overview Good Samaritan University Hospital recently broke ground on its Patient Care Pavilion. This 300,000 square foot addition will be located on the northeast portion of the campus and feature a 75-bay Emergency Department, 16 high-tech replacement operating rooms and three floors of private patient rooms. Job Details Job Title: Inpatient OB/GYN Laborist Location: GSUH Employment Type: FT Shift: Variable 12 hour shifts, one 8 hr. clinic shift/week Reports to: Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Inpatient OB/GYN Laborist to join our team at Good Samaritan University Hospital (GSUH), located in West Islip, NY. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive inpatient care, including labor and delivery services, surgical assistance, and other OB/GYN-related services, ensuring the highest quality care for patients. As a Laborist, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide exceptional care to expectant mothers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. GSUH is a 400-bed teaching hospital located on the south shore of Long Island. GSUH is five miles, a ten-minute drive, from beautiful state beaches and 35 miles from midtown Manhattan. With almost 900 physicians on staff, we care for well over 100,000 patients annually across the south shore of Long Island. GSUH is an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCoT) Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. The hospital provides critical care in seven (7) ICU’s, including a Level III neonatal ICU (NICU). GSUH is a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery (COEMIG) and an ACS Commission on Cancer accredited hospital with a Cancer Institute. The hospital has broken ground on a new, six story state of the art patient care pavilion, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025. New resident graduates are welcome. Key Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care in the labor and delivery unit, outpatient clinic, managing laboring patients and performing deliveries, including vaginal, operative, and cesarean sections. Oversee the management of high-risk pregnancies, including induction of labor, fetal monitoring, and delivery planning. Work collaboratively with attending physicians, nursing staff, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care. Provide on-site support, supervision and teaching to all Ob/Gyn residents. Perform emergency procedures such as vacuum extractions, episiotomies, and cesarean sections as necessary. Provide care to postpartum patients, ensuring timely assessments and follow-up care. Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for labor and delivery emergencies. Participate in educational activities, including providing guidance and training to residents, nurses, and other medical staff. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and healthcare standards. Ensure patient safety and comfort by maintaining a compassionate, responsive, and evidence-based care environment. Qualifications: Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with completion of OB/GYN residency training. Licensure: Valid, active medical license to practice in the state of New York. Board Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in OB/GYN. Experience: Preferred 2 years of experience in labor and delivery, preferably as a laborist or in a hospital inpatient OB/GYN setting, however newly graduated residents are welcome Skills/Competencies: Proficiency in managing labor, deliveries, and OB/GYN emergencies. Strong knowledge of prenatal care, labor management, postpartum care, and family planning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to handle high-pressure situations and manage a diverse patient population. Additional Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS certification required; NRP certification preferred. Only from AHA will be accepted. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high-risk obstetrics. Fluency in Spanish (or another language) is a plus. Previous teaching or mentoring experience in an academic setting. Working Conditions: The position involves working in a hospital labor and delivery unit, including standing, walking, and lifting. The role requires the ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of an on-call rotation. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
