WeCare at Waynesburg Registered Nurse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania

Responsible for the management of an assigned unit on a specific tour of duty. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously and effectively with professional and non-professional personnel, residents, families, visitors and support agencies in order to foster a climate of mutual respect, professional support and teamwork among all. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, display a positive attitude and perform in a professional manner. Will be open-minded to change, new proposals/concepts and comply with these changes. 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the PA State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Must currently be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the PA State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing, medical practices and procedures.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all legal regulations, guidelines and best practices that pertain to long-term care.
  • Must possess leadership, communication and people skills, supervisory abilities, and the capability to develop staff skills.
  • Must act as a role model for nursing assistants, licensed staff, and other personnel.
  • Must possess an aptitude for problem solving.
  • Employment is contingent on successful completion of a pre-placement physical.
  • Employment is contingent on completion of all pre-employment screenings including criminal background check and Medicaid Exclusion Screening, both indicating negative results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Know and support the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Nursing Department.
  • Assign resident care responsibilities to nursing personnel based on residents' needs, available staff and unit needs.
  • Collaborate, communicate and cooperate as appropriate with other health care providers to insure quality care, including transcribing physician's orders according to facility procedures.
  • Continually observe/monitor and evaluate quality, quantity and timeliness of nursing care.
  • Responsible for evaluating work performance evaluations of direct subordinates
  • Responsible for applying disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Assess need for modification of medical regimen and/or nursing care plan and ensure the clinical records are properly maintained.
  • Give resident care in emergency situations to assess complex resident needs or teach nursing techniques to residents, staff and/or family.
  • Administer medications including IV's and treatments as needed according to established policy and procedures. Report and investigate falls, unusual occurrences and significant changes in resident's condition to the DON/ADON or designee, physician, caseworker and responsible party according to facility policy and procedures for notification.
  • Document according to requirements of facility and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Give appropriate report in a professional manner to the nurses on next shift according to requirements of facility.
  • May obtain and write verbal orders from physicians as needed or requested by the Unit Managers or Supervisor.
  • Seek consultation as needed from DON/ADON/Unit Mgr and/or appropriate professional
  • Assist the Unit Manager in conducting team conferences to assist in planning nursing care, problem solving techniques for unit problems and evaluating staff's involvement and attitude.
  • Participate in committees as assigned.
  • Report any allegations of abuse/neglect immediately to DON/NHA
  • Maintain and enforce department and facility procedures, fire prevention and safety standards
  • Attend continuing educational programs relating to responsibilities of the position and professional growth.
  • Comply with Health Insurance Port bility and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  • Be an active participant in the facility's Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and Performance Improvement Project (PIP) as assigned.  Must also report potential or actual non-compliance issues to the facility's QAPI committee.
  • Will possibly be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be proficient in reading and writing and understand the spoken and written word.  Must be able to apply good sound nursing judgement while applying the Nurse Practice Act.  Must have some computer skills. Must be able to hear with corrective or adaptive devices and see adequately with corrective eyewear. Must have simple computational skills such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division and percentages. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend at knees and waist, push and pull, turn and lift a minimum of 50lbs.
