Community Crop, Inc. Orchard Worker in Walworth, New York
2 full time, temporary, seasonal H-2A positions available 04/11/2025 - 11/01/2025.
Crops/Commodities: Apples Cultivate and harvest apples; plant, transplant fruit trees/plants. Pick, lift, or pull crops during harvest. Snap fruit off tree with thumb and palm of hand to avoid stem pulls, punctures, bruising, or other damage. Pick culls and peelers. Fill fruit buckets/containers and place fruit in bins/truck beds/trailers or in designated area. Follow supervisor/foreman's instructions on color/size requirements. Must be able to differentiate between colors and varieties accurately. Hand thin/clip to control the size and quality of fruit. Remove fruit blossom, bud and/or identifiable fruit from within a cluster of other fruits. Must accurately identify and remove defected, damaged or otherwise unmarketable fruit. Hand prune. Use manual and mechanized pruning tools and equipment. Identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches rubbing against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots-suckers. Use hand tools including, but not limited to: shovels, hoes and knives. Till soil. Stake, tie, and trellis fruit trees. Tension and cut wire. Inspect products for damage/defects and discard inferior products. Place product in bins/trays and other containers according to grade. Palletize and stack boxes/containers. Repair bins. Move product to storage areas and/or loading areas to prepare for shipping. Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. Dig and maintain ditches.
Workers with a valid license and doctor's certificate may transport other workers and be offered additional hours. Operate agricultural equipment as needed. Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Mow, cut, weed and maintain orchards. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, rock/stone removal, perform post-harvest activities and other manual tasks. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Clean and maintain work areas, equipment, orchards and buildings. Repair and maintain fences. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a proficient manner without close supervision. Assist with Agricultural Practices policies. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.
