Lab Technicians will have the unique opportunity to work in both the applications lab and the compounding lab, gaining expertise in both areas. This role involves performing analytical testing on fragrance materials to ensure quality, safety, and accurate formulation, including refractive index, specific gravity, and flashpoint measurements using specialized equipment, and following precise formulas to blend raw materials into sample products for customers around the world. Training will be provided to exceptional candidates with a keen interest in fragrance. Ideal applicants will have a bachelor’s degree with lab experience in a scientific field or considerable experience in a fragrance or flavor compounding lab.
Responsibilities
Perform analytical testing on fragrance materials to ensure quality, safety, and accurate formulation, including refractive index, specific gravity, and flashpoint measurements using specialized equipment.
Perform laboratory test methods for the preparation of product specification sheets.
Manage supplies, contracts, servicing, calibration, and maintenance of instruments.
Compounding sample lab formulas and assisting in the applications lab as needed.
Work closely with Fragrance R&D to support projects and sampling.
Daily calibration and maintenance of instruments.
Conduct laboratory testing needed for completion of product specifications for samples, including color, odor, refractive index, specific gravity, and other QC related tests.
Complete worksheets and add data to internal computer programs (Formpak, Excel, Product Spec Systems).
Update changes in data in all relevant databases, including Formpak and Product Spec program, and inform all stakeholders.
Collaborate with Regulatory and QC teams to optimize policies and procedures.
Stock raw materials as needed.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong passion for fragrances and related applications.
Friendly and personable demeanor.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hands-on analytical experience in fragrance-related internships, including skills in measuring refractive index, specific gravity, and flashpoint.
No more than 2 years of industry experience in fragrance applications or home care products.
Strong sense of smell to create, combine, and blend different aroma chemicals, fragrances, and essential oils.
Ability to safely and accurately handle raw materials and compound different fragrances.
Ability to read SOPs and follow customer’s formula to meet project deadlines.
Experience conducting tests on raw materials and blended products to ensure they meet quality specifications.
Experience with solvents, glassware, and PPE usage.
Work Environment
Brand new lab with a small team of 7-10 people, but will have the ability to collaborate with global teams (UK, India, China, France). The work environment is very positive, collaborative, and fun with flexibility. The company is stable and continuously growing, and they want to train, develop, and uplift people with a passion for fragrance. The company is always ahead of the trends and is currently working on 2026 trend forecasting. The organization has been in business since 1982 and has global sites in the UK, India, China, and France.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
