Job Description:

Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

Packager

Chutes 1

  • Responsible for maintaining two first and back rows

  • Responsible for having basic understanding of proper speeds required to keep chutes full. If going too slow, the cookies will drag in the chutes causing the machine to shut off. It is the responsibility of the packager to ask the PMO to change the speed of the machine to ensure proper continuous flow of cookies

  • Remove sidewinders, burnt, chipped and backwards cookies – this ensures quality and continuous operation. Cookies that are not level with others must be pushed down to level with other cookies

  • If line shuts off, packager must release the chutes by pulling back on the two black levers which will allow cookies to fall into re-grind barrels. (If gray grinding barrels are full, packager will be responsible for notifying others that a new grinding barrel is needed.)If cookies are not falling into barrels, ensure that cookies are not stuck. If stuck, hold back the row of cookies stuck which will allow cookies to fall properly.

  • Unjamming cookies in the stacker when necessary. If this happens, take handfuls of cookies and toss them into gray barrel. Then use the unsticking tool to push the cookies through easier. (When using this tool, use caution so there is not damage to the blower) Continue until cookies are flowing freely down into the chutes. Communicate to the PMO that the machine may be restarted and close your black levers to begin flow of cookies. If the jam is caused by the inside rows, fix the jam as noted above and notify the person on chutes 2 that a mess is coming their way. Packagers should be aware of the reasons for the sticking – too big cookies, overlapping, or the electronic eyes are covered with crumbs. The packager should notify supervisor or lead person the reasoning for jam ups so that the problem may be corrected.

  • If at any time the line is down, employee must make trays of cookies while waiting. These trays are to be used when there are small gaps in cookies, to replace burnt or chipped cookies.

Chutes 2

  • Responsible for maintaining middle four rows on the belt

  • Responsible for having basic understanding of proper speeds required to keep chutes full. If going to slow, the cookies will drag in the chutes causing the machine to shut off. It is the responsibility of the packager to ask the PMO to change the speed of the machine to ensure proper continuous flow of cookies

Inspection 1 and 2

  • Responsible for insuring that cookies are presentable in the trays before going into the wrapping machine. Any burnt, chipped, backwards, or messy looking cookies must be removed and replaced with acceptable cookies. Cracked trays must also be replaced with good trays.

  • Duplex cookies – chocolate and vanilla cookies must not be facing the same way

  • Assorted cookies – All chocolate must be in one cell while vanilla will be in another.

  • Bucket Jams – emergency stop button must be engaged and bucket then taken out for cleaning. Communication with PMO is required to re-start the machine. (At no time should the bucket be removed without engaging the E-Stop button)

  • No trays – if cookies are coming down the belt and are not in trays, employee must notify PMO that trays are needed. The loose cookies must be pushed into pig food barrels.

  • Conveyor shut off – if conveyor shuts off, cookie trays must be placed on tables beside you and then added back to the belt once it is re-started and the person on the merger is consulted.

Merge

  • Split between 2 employees – 15 minutes each

  • Responsible for keeping loader full. Do not let trays get backed up or trays will jump pins and cause wrapper jam ups.

  • Watch for jamming of two lines coming together.

  • Date or Paper changes – remove trays and place on tables until wrapper re-starts.

  • If help is needed to remove trays, ask for assistance.

  • Conveyor shut off – if conveyor shuts off, cookie trays must be placed on tables beside you and then intermingled back on to the belt once it is re-started

Extra Spot

  • Not on ½ hour rotations

  • Responsible for opening up packages that need to be re-worked

  • Responsible for dumping pig food, garbage, sweeping, and grinding

    1. Grinding oat base goes into gray wheeled tote
    1. Grinding vanilla goes into white bins
    1. Grinding duplex goes into blue bins
    1. Grinding chocolate goes into gray bins
  • Will give breaks and/or share spots so that one person is not in the same spot continuously

  • Will make displays if necessary

  • Will make lids and/or putting them on certain products

  • Hand Packing when doing displays with a partner

  • Any reasonable request by a lead person or supervisor

Change Overs

  • Change Overs – during a change over, each position will do as follows:

  • Chutes If changing cookies, employee will dump trays of cookies and/or crumbs into grinding barrels. Gray barrels must be changed when changing flavors. Metal tray under blowers must be emptied and blown out when changing flavors. Stacker, chutes and side rails must be blown off (top, bottom, front, and back). Wipe out chutes - use scraper if necessary. Clean platform and grates.

  • Inspection Responsible for washing bucket and wiping down conveyor when there is a flavor change. Disengage the conveyor bottom and check for stray cookies along curves and rails of conveyor. Rails, inside rails and rails in overhead must be wiped out in addition to cleaning out metal end flap door. Any cookies that will not be used will be dumped into yellow pig food barrels. Pig food will also be dumped. Sweeping and general housekeeping of area. Air hose may be used if necessary.

  • Merge New plastic will be put on all tables Unused cookies will be dumped into yellow pig food bins Assist with barrel and bin washing if necessary Plastic sheets on table must be changed if there is a flavor change Spray out Peters Machine if directed by lead person or supervisor

  • Extra People Wash barrels and bins, dust pans sweep floor open any excess packages needing to be re-worked

  • Peanut Change Overs – Same as above with the addition of the following:

  • All rails and conveyor belts must be wiped down Bags must be replaced in all boxes Yellow barrels must be washed out Gloves and aprons must be changed Use proper sink designated for peanut

  • Miscellaneous

  • Occasional stacking of boxes/cases due to equipment malfunction or staffing issues

  • Good housekeeping and following all good manufacturing practices

  • Make Food Safety and Employees safety top priority

  • Adjust rails and conveyor belts must be wiped down

  • Assisting other personnel as required or directed

  • Any reasonable job or task assigned by a lead person or supervisor (ie: blowing out machines, housekeeping, etc.)

Important Details: This is a full-time permanent role on 1st shift, which operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on a rotational schedule including every other weekend. Starting pay $23.77/hr. and after six months $24.27/hr.
