Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, modifies, and installs a variety of sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes

  • Plans and lays out the work by interpreting multi-view blueprints, sketches, diagrams or from sample items

  • Selects or requisitions stock materials; uses complicated shop mathematics and measuring instruments to complete the fabrication, modification, repair and installation of sheet metal parts, items and assemblies within an established time standards and an acceptable level of quality

  • Selects, sets up correctly, and operates required machines, equipment, tools

  • Utilizes production packages and work instructions, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) from the Manufacturing Cell to fabricate all required schedule items

  • Exceeds or meets all established time standards and production schedules

  • Properly submits all product for First Article or similar inspections as required

  • Properly corrects any deficiencies from same. Informs shop leads, or supervisor in a timely manner of any impedance to assigned tasks

  • Exhibits safe work practices in all areas and with all equipment

  • Supports all fabrication, assembly and structural repair to all shelters, vans, antennas, HMMV'S and components

Qualifications

  • Must be a US citizen with ability to pass a thorough background check to obtain a government clearance

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and once hired pass an annual physical

  • Requires a background in sheet metal fabrication and overhauling of metal structures. This can also include auto body shop experience or sheet metal assembly work

  • Need to have the ability to work first, second, or third shift

  • Must be able to read, understand, and interpret drawings and sketches

  • Metal working related math skills are also required

  • A knowledge of shearing, forming, punching machines, drill presses, metal finishing techniques, and metal fabrication work in general is a necessity

  • Knowledge of layout and machine set-up and operations are needed

  • Fabricates, repairs, modifies, and installs a variety of sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes

  • The items include junction boxes, storage boxes, conduit boxes, library boxes, storage racks, duct work, shelters, etc.

  • Plans and lays out the work by interpreting multi-view blueprints, sketches, diagrams, or from sample items

  • Uses complicated shop mathematics and measuring instruments; evaluates structural damage; and selects/utilizes required machines/equipment/tools to complete the fabrication, modification, repair and installation of sheet metal parts, items and assemblies

Physical Demands :

  • Work requires prolonged periods of continuous exertion when bending and shaping complex or bulky sheet metal products

  • Also requires extended periods of standing and walking, climbing, working in cramped and awkward positions, and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and power tools

  • Weight lifted or physical force exerted to form sheet metal may occasionally exceed 50 pounds

  • Work is normally performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop areas

  • Some outside work is performed usually in periods of good weather

  • Subject to cuts, bruises, falls and burns

  • Appropriate safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, safety goggles, respirators, etc., are required
