Crouse Hospital Surgical Technologist in Syracuse, New York

Crouse’s Surgical Suite/OR team is hiring a Surgical Technologist Pay Range: $24.50-$39.56/hour

Available Schedule(s):

  • Weekender: 7:00am-3:30pm, 11:00am-7:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm with rotation of holidays, on-call & other shifts as needed

    Surgical Technologist Responsibilities:

  • Professionally assists in the setting up of the operating room for surgical procedures

  • Proactively maintains a sterile environment by following existing surgical standards prior to and during surgical procedures.

  • Routinely checks equipment for proper functioning and cleanliness.

  • Accurately assists with performing a sponge, needle and instrument counts.

  • Clarifies all specimens for proper labeling and testing to be done, in collaboration with the surgeon; passes off the sterile to the circulating nurse in a timely fashion.

  • Participates in "Time-Out" verifying surgical procedure and site including laterality with other members of the surgical team (circulating nurse, anesthesia, surgical team) before handling scalpel for incision.

  • Accurately labels and verbally confirms medication with the circulator and surgeon in accordance with existing hospital policy.

  • Cleans and restocks rooms after procedures, in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Proficiently assembles specialty trays and instruments, packing and wrapping for processing in Central Sterile.

    Surgical Technologist Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program required

  • Current certification (or certification eligible) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is required. If hired prior to receiving certification, the employee must take and pass the certification exam during the first year of employment. Continued employment as a Surgical Technologist is contingent on the employee passing the certification exam. Re-certification with the NBSTSA must be maintained throughout employment at Crouse Hospital.
