SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1 in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Duties include but are not limited to: Sign patient/visitors in at the information desk issuing a visitor pass and providing directions to their appointment, wayfinding, conducting a courteous, professional interview with patient on the nursing unit. Gather and enter all demographic and insurance data into EPIC. Obtain required signatures on hospital forms, distribute forms to patient. Provide information and directions to patients. Deliver mail and flowers to patient’s room. Escort patient and visitor in wheelchair to their appointment. Maintain knowledge of department policy and procedures. Provide flexibility in schedule to accommodate staffing needs of the department. Will participate in cross-training in other admitting areas. Will need to be able to prioritize work and handle stressful situations. Will perform support functions as necessary such as assist supervisor in new employee training. Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills are necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

The NYS Department of Civil Service has developed the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program, Effective April 5th, 2023. During this program, the NYS Civil Service Exam requirements are suspended for the Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1, SG07 title.

For consideration for this title, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

One year full-time clerical, secretarial or patient care experience in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Work Days:

Schedule based on 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday 1:30pm-10pm, rotating weekends and holidays
