Description

Clinical Instructor - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for supervising the Infusion center at Stony Brook Cancer Center (Part-Time position).

The APP will report to the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:

  • Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate.
  • Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary.
  • Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic of Stony Brook Cancer Center who present with new or progressive symptoms/signs.
  • Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients seen in the infusion center.
  • Manage complications of chemotherapy including writing/editing chemotherapy orders.
  • Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations.
  • Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins.
  • Educate patients and family members regarding chemotherapy toxicities.
  • Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR).
  • Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN license. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing. NYS license and certification as an Adult and/or Family Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant: NYS License and certification as a Physician Assistant. Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of PA's.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the management and treatment of cancer patients. Excellent communication skills. Experience with chemotherapy toxicities and infusion reactions.
