Job Description Summary:

The Executive Director, Strategic Market Access, Pricing, and Contracting (MACP) will report to the VP and General Manager- US. This position is field-based and offers a unique opportunity to shape and lead the US market access field team, as well as contracting and pricing operations. The Executive Director, MACP, will lead the development and execution of pricing strategies and contract management with payers, ensuring alignment with the company's financial and strategic objectives.
This MACP team will be instrumental in PTC's long-term success. It will support broad access and coverage for patients by implementing the PTC payer coverage strategy, including pricing and contracting, across payer segments.This individual will provide strategic and operational leadership and lead the development and successful implementation of market access, contracting, and pricing plans to support PTC products with payers and other reimbursement providers. They will collaborate closely with internal business partners from various departments such as Sales, Global Market Access, Government Affairs, and Medical to identify business needs and execute strategies to ensure widespread access across the US. This role is crucial in supporting patient access and coverage for PTC products within the payer community by aligning with PTC strategy through establishing strategic pricing and contracting approaches and removing barriers to prescribing.The responsibilities of this role also involve analyzing market dynamics related to government pricing and coverage. Additionally, the role includes updating government coverage requirements and ensuring that PTC complies with Medicaid, Medicare, and Department of Defense requirements to ensure patients in these programs have access to current and future PTC products. This entails collaborating with external vendors and stakeholders to meet all the requirements.The Executive Director, MACP will bring significant experience and success to the role, particularly in hiring and operationalizing an external market access, contracting and pricing team. Their expertise in the specialty biologics/orphan market segment, coupled with a strong national payer background including commercial and government providers, will be highly valued in this position.Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Hires and leads the US field-based market access, pricing and contracting team to support broad coverage for patients.
  • Assesses the needs of the business and provides recommendations on the teams' size and structure to support PTC's current and future commercial plans, including market access, pricing and contracting.
  • General leadership including coaching and mentoring members of the team.
  • Develops and executes comprehensive business plans for key commercial and government payers. Providing key insights into payer strategy and operational development associated with optimizing broad coverage/access and removing coverage barriers for PTC product(s).
  • Collaborates and develops strong working relationships with PTC cross-functional and commercial team members, including but not limited to: Global Market Access, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Patient Services, Legal and Field Sales to ensure broad payer access to PTC product(s).
  • Partners with the trade and patient services teams to ensure quality, efficiencies, and performance in delivering operational excellence and meeting PTC standards to ensure patient initiation and support of ongoing treatment.
  • Work with the Medical Affairs and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team and conduct analyses to advance our value proposition around our core solutions. Assess market dynamics to ensure value proposition and data support potential HTA (ICER) evaluation and how that may impact patient access.
  • Serves as the internal expert and primary point of contact on payer-related issues within the assigned region(s); communicates relevant and timely payer coverage information to appropriate internal and external stakeholders; provides input and feedback regarding contracting strategies and ensures that all contracting governance requirements are met. Leads contracting process with potential payers supported by internal collaboration and alignment with leadership. Executes agreed upon contracting strategies with payer team to support PTC product access.
  • Represent market access with broader commercial, global, and development teams to provide strategic expertise and insight. Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related business or scientific discipline and a minimum of 15+ years progressively responsible commercial (market access segment account) experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related environment including prior oversight of a market access, pricing and contracting teams.

  • Working knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the pharmaceutical reimbursement process and insurance coverage.
  • Extensive account management experience. Strong relationships with both private and public payers (Commercial and Government) with a track record of influencing policy change to improve access.
  • Strong background and proven track record in leading market access, pricing and contracting teams to support broad access across the product portfolio.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and respond quickly, flexibly and creatively to solve problems and address commercial market challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Travel requirements: 60%

*Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred.

  • Advanced degree (PhD, Master's, MBA).
  • Experience supporting the commercialization of an orphan, rare disease.
