NJ Employer Farmworker: Diversified in South Amsterdam, New York

Anticipated period of employment: Mar 24, 2025 to Oct 28, 2025

Hay & Straw: Workers will plant, cultivate, and harvest hay and straw. Workers will be required to walk between rows of planted hay and straw and remove weeds by hand or with a hoe. Workers must load hay bales weighting up to 60 lbs. from farm to tractor-trailers via a conveyor. Stacks hay on conveyor and restack in trailer according to instructions. Hay harvested is dropped at end of conveyor. Using hay hooks, worker places bales on conveyor while other workers in the barn stack hay in hay/mow according to direction. Hay and straw harvested averages about 2500 bales per day.Sweet corn, Tomatoes, Melons, Greens, Peppers, Pumpkins, Peas, Beans, Onions, Potatoes, Eggplant, and Squash: Workers will plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables. Workers will be required to remove weeds by hand or with a hoe. Workers will bend and stoop to pick vegetables according to size, color, shape and degree of maturity and place into field containers. Workers may carry full container weighing approximately fifty (50) lbs. and empty into field bin or load onto trailer. May be required to pull and discard culls as directed by supervisor. Pickers will take care not to bruise or scar produce. Pre-harvest activities may include staking, tying, transplanting and pruning. Workers will stand on feet for long periods of time. Workers are required to work in fields when plants are wet with dew or rain. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from forty (40) to over one hundred (100) degrees. Packing operation: Workers will perform various activities associated with packing produce harvested in the fields. Workers may be required to grade, fill, level, make boxes, and stack produce. Workers may perform support jobs that include bin and pallet repair and after hours clean up. Tractor/Forklift Operation During Field Operations: Worker may operate tractors, forklift, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery for land preparation, maintenance and cultivation, including to plow, harrow and fertilize soil and plants, and to plant, cultivate, and spray. Worker may operate equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors and implements. Worker may manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Worker may attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, and harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Worker may load containers and products using forklifts. Worker may operate grading and digging equipment. Properly licensed workers will operate farm vehicles on public roadways. Worker may perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting repair on equipment.
