UPMC Patient Care Technician - Behavioral Health in Somerset, Pennsylvania
UPMC Somerset is seeking a Full-time, Patient Care Technician to join our Life-Changing Team!
The Patient Care Technician provides routine care and supports department services as directed by nurses or physicians, ensuring high-quality patient care. They perform core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, simple dressing, catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, or IV catheter removal.
This full-time role requires working variable shifts, 36 hours a week, including rotating weekends and holidays.
*Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the PCT Career Ladder, based on their experience and education. Nursing Assistant rates start at $17.64/hr.
Responsibilities:
Assist with patient procedures and daily activities, including physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
Provide feedback to the RN and report changes in patient status.
Perform core nursing assistant tasks (e.g., blood glucose, weights, vital signs) and at least four additional tasks like phlebotomy or EKG.
Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with other departments.
Respond to call lights, pass meal trays, and transport patients.
Receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and improve skills.
Instruct patients and families under RN direction; manage patient restraints as needed.
Communicate clearly with the healthcare team and support workplace safety.
Adhere to all patient care policies and safety procedures.
Document in medical records, complete tasks promptly, and support department projects.
Nursing Assistant
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Patient Care Technician
High school diploma or equivalent.
If no previous hospital or pre-hospital training,
successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class
OR successful completion of EIC training program
OR successful completion of first year of clinical work in a nursing program.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
