Overview St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, affiliated with Catholic Health, is located in Smithtown, NY on a beautiful 110-acre campus that includes a 290-bed community hospital, a 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility, and a 60,000 sq. ft. medical office building. SCS is engaged with error reduction initiatives and on a journey to High Reliability. We have been recognized in superior care in stroke and sepsis patients, have also recently attained Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery, and have been designated as the only Baby Friendly hospital in Suffolk County. Job Details POSITION SUMMARY: To coordinate and engage in the preparation of food for patients and special functions. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Effectively assembles and processes raw foods to make them palatable • Inspects food for quality, appearance and taste • Communicates findings related to food utilization, specification, pack, portion usage and yield • Demonstrates proper food storage, rotation and holding • Designates whether leftovers should be salvaged or discarded following meal service in the kitchen • Demonstrates ability to prepare meals according to menus to meet the needs of age specific groups: pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric • Maintains a neat, clean, safe work area at all times • Demonstrates organizational skills for efficient food production • Delegates sanitation procedures to the pot washer and assigned sanitation aides in the kitchen. • Remains vigilant at all times to report and ensure correction of slip hazards, food contamination hazards and fire hazards • Locks, turns off, and secures all heavy duty preparation equipment, reporting any malfunction immediately • Meets work volume required and the needs of the patients • Communicates to the Chef concerning the status of work load, questions, problems and experiences related to the job • Demonstrates respect for the cultural and religious diversities and needs of the patients, families, and staff. • Ensures an atmosphere which is patient focused, placing an emphasis on patient safety and patient experiences techniques as outlined by Catholic Health. • Maintains a positive and supportive attitude towards the mission and goals of Catholic Health. Behaves in a manner that promotes an atmosphere of teamwork. • Participates in in-service programs, department meetings and huddles and annual competency assessments. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education: • High School Diploma or GED Licensure/Certification: • Serve Safe Certification preferred Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: • Ability to follow standardized recipes • Basic culinary skills including knife skills and basic cooking techniques • Compliance with regulatory standards and practices, including sanitation. • Ability to operate equipment and machines (kettles, grill, broiler, toaster, blender, slicer, ovens, mixers, choppers, microwaves, steamers and other food service equipment.) Experience: • At least two years’ experience cooking in a healthcare setting. 90 hour course or equivalent education preferred Salary Range USD $31.09 - USD $31.09 /Hr. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
