Geisinger Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Inpatient Hem/Onc $10k Incentive in Scranton, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Geisinger's Cancer Institute is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our cancer team in an inpatient role at Geisinger CMC, Scranton, PA. The APP will be joining a team of physicians and experienced in a dynamic inpatient environment. This exciting career involves care of patients in a hematology and oncology consult service. It includes care of patients with solid tumors as well as benign and malignant hematology. The optimal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as an APP in a cancer or adult medicine field (preferably in the inpatient setting), however less experienced candidates will be considered accordingly. This individual will perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. Assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. APP will ultimately be an advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between the patient and physician. Job Duties

  • Performs initial assessment and triage of patients based on information obtained pertinent to presenting condition.

  • Keeps track of pertinent procedure and laboratory results, discusses with physician, and returns call to family and patient regarding the results and plans.

  • Assists with arranging appropriate follow-up for the patients in coordination with the outpatient cancer institute team.

  • Participate with joint rounds.

  • Obtains or assists in the prior auth process for medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments as time allows.

  • Once competent, will perform bone marrow biopsies and other procedures.

  • Assistance in implementing Geisinger and/or Cancer institute special initiatives as time allows.

    Work is typically performed in an inpatient environment with possible limited role in the outpatient center from time to time as needed. Monday-Friday 8:00a-4:00p

*May assist in covering outpatient clinic, when needed. Current outpatient clinic is located at GCMC and future outpatient clinic site (fall of 2025) will be located at Geisinger Dickson City Cancer Center (approximately 10 minutes from GCMC).

Master's Degree-Physician Assistant (Required), Master's Degree-Nurse Practitioner (Required)

Experience

Certification(s) and License(s)

Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body; Certified Physician Assistant - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
