Guthrie Grounds Maintenance Worker - Plant Services - Full Time in Sayre, Pennsylvania

Position Summary:

Maintains and cares for hospital grounds, including all decorative plantings. This will include the planting and maintenance of seeds, bulbs, trees and shrubbery so that the resulting growth will produce an attractive appearance. Maintenance of grass areas including reseeding and re-sodding when necessary, weeding and thinning of flower beds, pruning of trees and trimming of hedges to promote growth and improve appearance. All of these duties will be completed in a safe and timely manner.

Education, License & Cert:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Licenses: Must have valid driver’s license required for travel to various facilities and/or use of a snow plow. During orientation period, employee maybe required to participate in a "Powered industrial truck operators" course (#78‐199 published by NIOSH) and be able to interpret and exercise all information and rules set forth in the regulations. This must be renewed by incumbent annually.

Experience:

  1. Must have six months experience operating commercial or industrial tractors, fork trucks, power driven moving equipment, snow plows and other motorized equipment. Experience can be combined, but must have some experience with all or most of the above equipment.

  2. Must have some experience in moving heavy equipment using chain falls, come‐alongs. Must also be able to set scaffolding. 3. Must have a mechanical aptitude.

  3. Must be able to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated, detailed instructions in writing and orally for effective interaction with administrative, medical, and supervisory staff, patients, architects, contractors, and vendors.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs routine maintenance such as mowing and raking lawns, weeding gardens and trimming shrubbery.

  2. Checks for evidence of insects, fungus and other pest damage in all planted material including flowers, shrubs, and trees. Treating will be determined and administered to correct any problems.

  3. Responsible for the removal of snow and may be assigned the duty to coordinate winter maintenance of The Guthrie Clinic properties according to departmental policy. May be responsible for the completion of daily snow removal logs.

  4. Rebuilds, repairs and conducts preventive maintenance on all power equipment (small gasoline engines) which also includes keeping an inventory supply of repair parts.

  5. Assists in the relocation of various departments and/or materials as requested.

  6. As requested coordinates the activity of contracted services.

  7. Removal of trash on grounds and maintain cleanliness of grounds and parking lots.

  8. Maintain off‐site storage/warehousing facilities in a neat, orderly and organized manner.

  9. Handles and is responsible for safe destruction of confidential records as needed. 10. Loads and unloads scrap metals to recycling facility.

Other Duties:

  1. Demonstrates cost effectiveness by: proper use and care of equipment; appropriate and prudent use of supplies; accurately recording labor and supply charges and appropriately utilizing available resources.

  2. Attends mandatory in‐services as required.

  3. Responds to emergencies in the facility.
