Intern, Electrical Engineering - 2006998   DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities * Become familiar with the process controls and automation initiatives and challenges across the site and collaboratively identify project opportunities best aligned to skills * Research methods to execute on project and propose solutions with recommendation on path forward * Develop Proof of Concept (POC) prototypes for new programs and/or electromechanical systems within the project. * Generate suitable up-front documentation to demonstrate understanding of functionality with appropriate consideration for safety and use, as needed. * Procure, assemble, and test hardware as needed, following all test plans generated in the development phase. * Document and communicate all results in a clear, concise format. * Support hand-off to production team or provide guidance on path to production use.   Requirements * Engineering major, preferably electrical * Ability to work creatively in multi-disciplinary teams and strive for innovative solutions * Experience in circuit design and analysis a must * Experience programming in some combination of C#, .NET, Python, LabView, or other standard industrial protocol a major plus * Experience with programmable logic (PLC) or deterministic controllers a strong plus * Strong analytical skills a plus * Citizen or permanent resident   Benefits * Practical experience in emerging technical fields * Collaborating hand-in-hand with skilled teams of software engineers * Shadowing, mentoring, and training opportunities with seasoned professionals * Experience and training in small-project management and execution   Working Conditions * Work environment can range from office to lab to manufacturing floor. * Work involving small to large equipment.   Physical Requirements * Able to perform physical tasks in various positions: standing, crouching, kneeling, reaching * Requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer * Perform occasional lab or bench-level test work as needed   Safety Requirements * All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and COHERENT Corporate EHS standards. * PPE may be required when entering manufacturing areas.   Quality & Environmental Responsibilities * Responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9001 and other standards within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.   Culture Commitment * Ensure adherence to company's values (ICARE) in all aspects of your position at Coherent:   Integrity - Create an Environment of Trust Collaboration - Innovate Through the Sharing of Ideas Accountability - Own the Process and the Outcome Respect - Recognize the Value in Everyone   Enthusiasm - Find a Sense of Purpose in WorkCoherent is a global leader in lasers, engineered materials and networking components.
