ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE SERVICES INC Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist - St Marys, PA in Saint Marys, Pennsylvania

*LOCATION: *St. Marys, PA

THE DUTIES:

  • Prepares, reviews, utilizes, and disseminates ATOD educational and informational materials to promote substance abuse and gambling education.
  • Provides community awareness of available services utilizing a variety of techniques including agency website.
  • Interacts with community organizations and individuals in representing ADAS, Inc. including representation of agency on community councils and multi-agency teams, health fairs, and other speaking engagements and presentations.
  • Consults and interacts with Student Assistance Program (SAP) core teams in schools that have implemented programs.
  • Provides educational resources, technical assistance, and referral for programs, agencies and community members seeking ATOD or gambling related information.
  • Refers individuals and families seeking treatment or counseling to the proper facility within the system.
  • Delivers presentations to schools, civic and communities to develop awareness of ATOD and gambling related problems including ADAS efforts to address them and how to access ADAS and SCA contracted services.
  • Conducts ATOD and gambling prevention curriculum in preschool and K-12.
  • Facilitates groups to a variety of participants including First Time Offenders and Youthful Offenders.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and workshops to develop, maintain and enhance knowledge and skills appropriate to the position.
  • Acts as one of the SCA's lead trainers for Commonwealth Approved Trainers and attends appropriate training to maintain agency status as a Commonwealth Approved Trainer.
  • Researches and pursues alternative sources of funding.
  • Enters data on DDAP's electronic/web-based WITS.
  • Travels by means of own transportation. Overnight travel may be necessary at times.
  • Performs all other duties as related to the prevention department.

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of current developments in the drug and alcohol field.
  • Knowledge of problems in the schools and community in relation to drug and alcohol consumption.
  • Knowledge of school district organizational structure, curriculum, policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of community organizations and their function relative to drug and alcohol related problems.
  • Knowledge of health impacts relating to drug and alcohol consumption.
  • Knowledge of the alcohol highway safety laws and their application.
  • Ability to gather data in order to compose advertising and educational literature and deliver speeches on drug and alcohol topics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with the general public.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

One year as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee.

or

A bachelor's degree in health education, education, the social or behavioral sciences and 1 (one) year of experience in drug and alcohol prevention work.

Driver's License is required. Drug testing is required.
