We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Medical Assistant to join our Neurology department. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of clinical and administrative skills, ensuring efficient patient care and smooth operational flow within our office. The role involves a mix of clinical support (90%) and administrative support (10%), providing comprehensive care to our patients.
Responsibilities
Ensure efficient patient flow.
Prepare treatment rooms and equipment for patient examinations.
Provide appropriate procedural support following department-specific guidelines.
Perform initial intake of patients, including interviews to obtain chief complaints/reasons for visits, vital signs, and allergy information.
Accurately record and update relevant patient information.
Perform daily Quality Controls (QC) for all Point of Care (POC) testing.
Obtain specimens and accurately perform and record patient POC testing per policy.
Under provider and/or RN direction, perform tracking and retrieval of patient lab/diagnostic testing results to facilitate timely provider review and follow-up.
Under provider and/or RN direction, perform the administrative functions of the patient prescription renewal process in accordance with policy.
Provide cross coverage for other appropriate clinical roles.
Support patient check-in and check-out processes.
Schedule and coordinate all patient appointments.
Answer and direct calls.
Process pre-authorizations and pre-certifications.
Prepare and file medical records.
Provide cross coverage for other administrative roles.
Maintain clinical files according to organization/department protocols.
Process patient-related correspondence.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Provide support as needed for departmental medical record audits.
Clean and stock patient care rooms between patients.
Maintain appropriate inventories of all medical supplies.
Stock and maintain all patient-related forms and educational materials.
Utilize equipment appropriately and notify the Practice Manager in a timely fashion of equipment/facility breakdown or damage.
Ensure documentation is legible and falls within the appropriate MA scope/Organizational documentation guidelines.
Accurately document patient information on appropriate forms.
Demonstrate accuracy in basic data entry and data retrieval of paper/electronic patient records.
Perform other duties as may be assigned to promote health, safety, and comfort.
Ability to travel to satellite locations may be required.
Demonstrate an awareness of safety needs and a basic knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, risk management, and environment of care policies.
Ask questions, seek clarifications, and request assistance when needed and in situations that fall outside of the MA scope of practice.
Demonstrate support for the mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with organizational standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
1-2 years of Cardiology experience is a plus but must be bilingual in Spanish (Speaking)
Ability to translate instructions and questions to patients
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Understanding of infection control, risk management, and environment of care policies
Work Environment
Candidates will be working in a Neurology department attached to Mercy Hospital. The role involves both clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, with training provided for non-clinical tasks. Candidates must be prepared to cover for other employees as needed. The work schedule is as follows: Monday 7:30am - 2pm, Tuesday 8am-6pm, Wednesday 8am-6pm, Thursday 8am-6pm, and Friday 8:30am - 1pm.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
