General Description

This position involves responsibility for the processing, analyzing, reconciling, and maintaining of financial accounts and records. Work is performed independently under general supervision from a higher level employee. Related work is performed as required.

This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.

A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

Typical Work Activities

  • Reconciles and balances operating budget;

  • Recommends funding levels for current operating budget preparation based on analysis of prior budget levels;

  • Audits claim vouchers and travel authorizations and processes for payment;

  • Recommends funding sources for unplanned expenses;

  • Researches bond ordinances to confirm that purpose is appropriate for planned usage;

  • Reviews and reconciles contracts/agreements, close out information using computer software;

  • Prepares and routes appropriation transfers, journal entries, claim vouchers, purchasing requests, and professional services agreements;

  • Prepares a variety of reports, narratives, and spreadsheets.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D AND

  • Associates degree in Business Administration or closely related field, plus two (2) years of work experience in account keeping, bookkeeping, or financial record keeping. OR

  • Three (3) years of experience as described in A.
