University of Rochester Department of Neurosurgery Cerebrovascular Division Nurse Practitioner Physician Assistant in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated APP to join the URMC Department of Neurosurgery in its regional program. The successful candidate will work on behalf of both general and subspecialty neurosurgery providers, under the direction of the Vice Chair of Regional Neurosurgery and will deliver medical care to patients in various regional outpatient settings. Periodic travel to regional locations required (5-8 days per month).

Responsibilities:

  • After significant guidance and training, responsible for outpatient general and subspecialty neurosurgery clinics for patients living outside of Monroe County. Clinics will be offered in both in-person and telehealth formats. (Clinic sites to include Auburn, Cooperstown, Watertown, and Binghamton, NY areas.)

  • After significant guidance and training, manage outpatient clinic independently, with minimal supervision.

  • Work independently and collaboratively with members of various neurosurgery provider care teams and in outpatient office environment.

  • Travel to regional sites five to eight times per month to offer outpatient neurosurgery subspecialty clinics at regional hub sites.

  • Obtain comprehensive history and physicals.

  • Coordinate, review, and follow up on diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and procedures.

  • Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests.

  • Perform postoperative follow up and evaluation of surgical patients in the outpatient setting.

  • Complete preoperative workup and consenting of patients in the outpatient setting.

  • Clearly communicate diagnostic testing results to providers and patients.

  • Prescribe medications and support patients in pre and post treatment planning.

  • Educate patients and families about cerebrovascular disease processes and treatment plans.

  • Updates families about procedural timelines and outcomes.

  • Document patient care in electronic medical records.

  • Respond to patient questions and concerns.

  • Participate in the education of learners in regional settings, using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skills training.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Obtain and maintain certification for Moderate Sedation, BLS, ACLS.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills with an ability to make independent decisions in the management of complex stroke and cerebrovascular disease patient care. Extensive on-the-job training will also be provided.

  • Applicant must possess a commitment to providing quality patient care and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Current NYS PA/ NP license.

  • PAs : current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • NPs : current certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).

  • Experience preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in the use of the EPIC electronic medical record system.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master’s degree (or pending) as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active/pending New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Requires completion (or pending) of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active/pending New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA ( National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relations skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.71- $67.07

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
