Fedcap Behavior Intervention Specialist in Rochester, New York

We are immediately hiring in Rochester, NY! Join us at the Kessler Center School for an exciting career as a Behavior Intervention Specialist.

Salary Range: $50,000-54,000

Position Summary:

Develop comprehensive behavioral support plans consistent with OPWDD regulations using positive, proactive approaches and emphasizing the development of replacement behaviors. Develop comprehensive behavior intervention plans consistent with NYSED regulations that focus on proactive and active strategies that support an individual’s academic goals. Support the monitoring, data collection, and reporting of behavioral challenges and the growth of replacement behaviors.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for department operations in compliance with OPWDD and NYSED regulations.

  2. Complete functional behavioral analysis prior to the development of a behavior support plan (BSP) – OPWDD – at intake and yearly.

  3. Complete behavior Support plans (BSPs) for residents – OPWDD at intake and yearly or as requested by the Human Rights Committee (HRC).

  4. Obtain CSE consent to engage in a functional analysis (FBA) for a school-day student (under NYSED regulations) prior to the development of a behavior intervention plan (BIP) per NYSED and introduce the FBA and BIP at CSE prior to implementation.

  5. Develop a school Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for school-day students who are not adequately served by the school-wide set of positive supports.

  6. Monitor and collect data on an ongoing basis for maladaptive and replacement behaviors.

  7. Coordinate with psychiatry and nursing staff in the development of PRN protocols for psychotropic PRN medications.

  8. Coordinate with nursing staff on MIPS requests.

  9. Obtain parental consent for Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and PRN protocols prior to HRC submission.

  10. Ensure that prior to HRC submission and utilization, that nursing staff has obtained parental consents for psychotropic medications, MIPS, and PRNs administration.

  11. Compile information and complete human rights committee packets and requests for Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), MIPS requests, psychotropic medications, PRN medication requests, Addendums and similar.

  12. Present BSPs, MIPS requests, psychotropic medications, PRN requests, and Addendums at the Human Rights Committee (but not school BIPs).

  13. Compile and write a monthly behavior summary for residential clients and at least quarterly for day students.

  14. Attend and participate in CFA, ITT, CSE, psychiatric rounds, and other treatment, staff, and professional development meetings.

  15. Provide training to direct support staff, Teacher aides and assistants, Residence Managers, Teachers, clinical staff and management in the areas of emergency interventions, positive and proactive strategies, restrictive plans, client rights, incident reporting, data collection and parent support and rights.

  16. Provide direct behavioral support and training to families to increase their capacity to serve their own family member.

  17. Observe students, coach students, and coach staff and family in school, residence and family settings on a regular basis.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in psychology with 5 years’ experience in behavioral support and functional analysis, OR

  • Master’s degree in human services field with continual behavioral support work since December 2012, OR

  • Master’s degree in education with continual behavioral support work and/or educational experience.

  • Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA).

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
