Penske IT Manager Big Data Engineering in Reading, Pennsylvania

OPPORTUNITY SNAPSHOT:

As the Manager of Data Engineering for Penske Truck Leasing, you’ll be in a high-impact role. You will be responsible for leading and managing many Data Engineering, Data Architecture, and Data Warehousing initiatives for Penske. Apart from managing the day-to-day operations of the Data Engineering team, you will also lead the deployment of Data Engineering applications and architecture across the enterprise.

As this is a critical role you will have the opportunity to deliver the next generation of data engineering solutions for Penske business groups while making an impact on the top and bottom line. You will be working very closely with Finance, Marketing, Maintenance, Pricing, HR, Leasing, Rental and Logistics business groups. In this role, you will lead a team of Data architects, analysts, data modelers, and programmers. You will be working closely with Enterprise Architects, Cloud Engineering, the Data Platform team, Platform services, and Network/Security groups. This position will report to the Senior Manager - BI and Data Engineering.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Data Engineering will lead the identification and deployment of the most efficient and effective mechanisms for data acquisition, integration, and delivery. You will also develop best practices for data definition, aggregation, and data life cycle management. In this role, you will deliver fit-for-use data delivery and data consumption mechanisms. You will be involved in technology selection, building, testing, deployment, support, and documentation of the data delivery infrastructure solutions. You will also lead many Data Engineering initiatives for the enterprise.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Data & Architecture for the enterprise needs.

  • Data Processing (sourcing, acquisition, integration, aggregation) and Data warehousing

  • Participate in Data Management & Governance practice.

  • Support BI & Advanced Analytics Initiatives.

  • Support Self Service BI & AI platforms.

  • Finding ways to leverage existing enterprise data and information in the company's products and services.

  • Support Enterprise / Corporate Performance Management initiatives. Management of strategies, goals, objectives, metrics, KPIs/KPMs, and optionally, enterprise scorecards

  • Support GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) aspects of data management.

  • Production and business support

  • The Manager of Data Engineering will lead her/his teams by executing a vision for the delivery of information and analytics solutions to the key business stakeholders, including, internal staff, partners, and clients. This position will help transform the company into a business that truly differentiates and competes in data and analytics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in Data Warehousing, Information Management, or a directly related area, during which both professional and management capabilities have been demonstrated.

  • A degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, operations, management, or a related field is required.

  • Minimum five plus years of experience as a leader of a data team in the organization.

  • Significant knowledge of functional areas – IOT, Transportation, Finance, Maintenance, Marketing, and HR related to the Leasing & Logistics industry is a big plus.

  • Experience in supporting a wide range of data & analytics initiatives across the company and closely associated with BI & Advanced analytics teams.

  • Exposure to Data Lake, Lake House concepts, and technologies like Snowflake, AWS RedShift, or Databricks.

  • Experience in multidimensional data modeling, logical, physical, and star schemas, snowflakes, and de-normalized models.

  • Experience in handling Big Data, IOT Data, and specifically a variety of Big Data file Formats Avro, Parquet, etc.

  • Experience with data and analytics in one cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure.

  • Experience in Data Engineering tools such as Talend, SAP BODS, Python, PySpark, AWS S3, Glue, Athena, EMR, Kafka or similar tools.

  • Exposure to BI & analytics tools such as Qlik Sense, Sagemaker, SAS Viya, and Dataiku.

  • Experience in handling purposeful database platforms that include Relational, Key-Value, In-Memory, Document, Time series, and Geospatial data stores.

  • Experience with agile software development.

  • Experience with business-driven / self-service BI / Self Service AI.

  • A solid understanding of data security and privacy technologies.

  • A solid understanding of mobile delivery architecture and best practices.

  • Experience with data science, statistical analysis, data mining, and predictive algorithms to support advanced/predictive analytics.

  • Extensive experience interacting with senior leaders and executives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent presentation, storytelling, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Experience managing large complex Data Engineering projects and teams across different time zones.

  • Experience in building and supporting Data Engineering/analytics business cases.

  • Proven ability to complete projects and achieve results in an ambiguous work environment.

  • Proven ability to build and motivate a team to achieve the milestones.

  • Knowledge of ITIL concepts and practices.

  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and work at the specific location required.
