Position Summary__

Morgan Stanley Private Markets provides Morgan Stanley Wealth Management clients the opportunity to invest in private companies, either by investing alongside an asset manager, investing directly in the company, or by buying or selling secondary shares through the secondary transaction desk. The Morgan Stanley Private Markets team is involved in sourcing investments, originating through the Morgan Stanley platform, and ensuring Financial Advisors and their clients are aware of investment opportunities.

As part of the Private Markets sourcing and product origination team, you will source best in class co-invest and direct offerings for MSWM clients to invest in. You will work closely with asset manager connections and partners across IBD, MSIM, MS@W, and GIMA to source these opportunities, and will partner closely with distribution to understand the investment desires of the wealth management client base. The ability to complete and explain initial due diligence on these opportunities is pivotal when working with GIMA and control partners on the path forward for each opportunity. This position will play a pivotal role in determining what co-invest / direct opportunities are brought on platform and ensure Morgan Stanley remains a leader in the Private Markets space.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • · Responsible for sourcing best in class co-investment / direct offerings for MSWM clients; must anticipate needs of wealth management client base, understand industry trends and new product development, and utilize network of asset manager connections to find new offerings
  • · Responsible for cultivating strong relationships and creating alignment between third party managers’ and MSPM's goals.
  • · Responsible for performing initial due diligence on private investments including buyout, growth equity, venture capital, secondary and related sub-strategies
  • · Responsible for analyzing asset managers in relation to their investment process, track record, attribution, portfolio construction, and risk management capabilities
  • · Partner with internal colleagues to provide advice and recommendations to investment committees, financial advisors, and clients

Qualifications:

  • 7 years of job experience in financial markets; experience in alternative investments is preferred
  • Knowledge of various alternative investment strategies and existing network of relationships with alternative asset managers is strongly desired
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to think and act strategically
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively at all levels within the organization
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to lead cross functional work efforts
  • Ability to identify, prioritize and execute timely business priorities
  • FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 (or Series 63 and 65) required or willingness to obtain within 120 days of hire

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $235,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
