Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory Facilities Maintenance Technician in Princeton, New Jersey

Overview

Under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor and Lead the facilities general mechanic will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the facilities infrastructure. This includes repairing walls, floors, doors, windows ceilings, carpentry, locksmithing and firestopping. Additional responsibilities for snow removal and assisting with furniture/lab moves as needed.

General Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of facilities infrastructure. Complete building maintenance and repair of ceilings, floors, locks, doors, roofs, walls, and snow removal. This position will also support the other maintenance trade shops with additional support.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Maintenance: Evaluates, repairs, and maintains various building and infrastructure needs. Executes assigned repairs and/or installation work orders for typical facility building infrastructure. General facility maintenance will include but not limited to repairs/installs of gypsum and plaster walls, windows, suspended ceilings, floor tiles and carpeting. Scope of maintenance shop may include painting, locksmithing, masonry, minor roof repairs, and firestopping of penetrations. Follows preventive maintenance program in conjunction with Facilities engineering and other maintenance staff. - 65%

  • Operations: Support the Laboratory by, moving equipment, and furniture/equipment, hanging white boards, and event support. - 20%

  • Snow removal: As needed, removes snow from sidewalks and roadways by shoveling, using snow throwers or snowplow. - As Needed

  • Administrative: Maintains proper paperwork of work orders completed in computerized maintenance management system. Follows all PPPL procedures and policies. - 10%

  • Perform tasks as assigned by supervisor - 5%

  • Has knowledge of, supports, and consistently applies the Laboratory’s Integrated Safety Management (ISM) program and all ES&H requirements. Encourages others to be safety conscious and observe safety rules including use of safety equipment. Reviews work for environmental impact. Complies with ES&H Directives, DOE Orders and OSHA standards. Attends required training.

    Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Education or Equivalent. Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.

  • Vocational, Technical, or Military training in general construction, building maintenance or trade specific programs preferred.

  • 7 plus years in a construction or maintenance technician role.

  • Experience operating forklifts, and machinery.

  • Experience with interior and exterior building repairs. Training and experience using lifts, scaffolds, and ladders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with CMMS programs (Maximo).

  • Ability to spec minor rehabilitation projects to include labor, material, and additional trade support needed.

  • Ability to use common hand and power tools, operate at a workman level in general building construction/repair trades.

  • Ability to work with other trades, assisting as needing outside of craft.

  • Experience with forklifts, skid steer, and other equipment a plus.

  • Experience planning/organizing/executing repairs and refurbishment of equipment, and infrastructure.

  • Experience with firestopping, and locksmithing a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. Work in confined spaces, at heights, and exposure to plant hazards (steam/electrical/mechanical/radiological).

Working Conditions

  • Position will require work in inclement weather.
