JOB PURPOSE
The PPPL Building Custodial employee, will provide custodial cleaning services, work in teams as needed, provide customer service, maintain safety in the workplace, support F&SS sustainable excellence in operations and the maintenance of PPPL facilities and infrastructure, and model PPPL's core values, RISE.

CORE DUTIES
1. Communicate with teams and supervisor/management on PPPL communication device.
2. Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative in completing work assignments.
3. Clean bathrooms and restrooms including shower rooms, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, and other similar equipment. Fills paper towel, toilet tissue, hand sanitizers and soap dispensers.
4. Dusts furniture, equipment, and flat surfaces. Cleans windowsills, ledges, door frames/trim,
radiators, baseboards, and tops of windows.
5. Perform corrective and restorative maintenance on tile, hard-floors, and carpet.
6. Empty waste receptacles. Transfer trash, compost, and recyclables to dumpster sites.
7. Dust, vacuum, wipe down and disinfect tables, clean chairs, and clean fixtures
8. Clean appliances in common areas as needed
9. Dustmop, mop, vacuum, scrub, burnish, strip and refinish floor surfaces
10. Vacuum, extract, and shampoo carpets.
11. Clean lobbies, meeting rooms and cafeteria (routine cleaning in serving line and dining area).
12. Clean stairwells, elevators, and steps to buildings, and de-ice in winter weather.
13. Cleans draperies, curtains, and Venetian blinds as necessary.
14. Wash and web walls and clean windows periodically.
15. Reports need for maintenance and repairs to supervisor or trades man.
16. Provide minor maintenance to custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, automatic scrubbers, shampoo machines and all equipment within the janitorial department
17. Cleans utility rooms and dumpster trash areas. Keeps janitor utility room clean and in order.
18. Sets up furniture in rooms and tables and chairs for special functions.
19. Responsible for safe and proper handling of all equipment, including special cleaning equipment. Check all equipment prior to use for safe operations.
20. Perform Operators Daily Check List on vehicles and equipment.
21. Perform general maintenance on all janitorial equipment and maintenance as needed.
22. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions
Must be able to follow verbal instructions.

Experience:

Custodial experience. Previous work experience in the cleaning industry environment or
equivalent.
Must demonstrate basic computer data entry skills for email, timesheet, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (including unique software/hardware requirements)
Environment, Safety and Health

Has knowledge of and supports Laboratory ES&H requirements; consistently applies them. Encourages others to be safety conscious and observe safety rules including use of safety equipment. Reviews work for environmental impact. Complies with ES&H Directives, DOE (Department of Energy) Orders and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards. Attends and complete required training.

Certificates and Licenses
Must have a valid drivers license to operate government vehicles.

1. Demonstration of good interpersonal and communication skills in reading, writing, and receiving oral instructions.
2. Must have experience, knowledge, or ability to learn how to operate equipment and current
methods used in the cleaning industry.
3. Must have a valid Driver's License for operating University vehicles.
4. Must have fundamental knowledge of computer skills, accessing online resources and trainings.
5. Must be able to stand or walk 2-4 hours at one time for 6-8 hours per day.
6. Must be able to lift or carry up to 10 pounds frequently (33% - 66% of the workday)
7. Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the workday) and in a
range of motions from floor to shoulder height.
8. Must be able to lift, up to 30 pounds in a range of motions from floor to overhead.
9. Must be able to push or pull using forces up to 10 pounds constantly (over 66% of the workday).
10. Must be able to push or pull using forces up to 60 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the
workday).
11. Must be able to frequently use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling.
12. Must be able to bend, push, or pull frequently (33% - 66% of the workday).
13. Must be able to squat, kneel, climb, reach overhead, or lift overhead occasionally (up to 33% of the workday).
14. Must be able to climb stairs or ladder, remove snow or ice, and work outdoors in a variety of
environmental conditions.
15. Must be able to work at heights no greater than the use of a 6' ladder, possess full range of body motions and physical agility, and have, the ability to maintain balance.

Will be required to pass a physical.

WORKING CONDITIONS (Shift work, onsite or remote work, hours and other unique job conditions)
Must be able to work nonstandard work shifts: example 5AM to 1:30PM.
