Tompkins Community Bank CRA Residential Mortgage Officer in Pittsford, New York
Overview
The CRA Lender will play a critical role in promoting our commitment to community development and responsible lending practices. This position will focus on identifying and serving the credit needs of the communities in which we operate, especially in low-to-moderate income areas in compliance with the CRA regulations.
Responsibilities
Identify, evaluate and originate loans that meet the needs of the community focused on low to moderate income neighborhoods and borrowers.
Establish and maintain relationships with community development groups including nonprofits, local governments and potential borrowers to understand the needs of the community, build referral sources and promote lending opportunities.
Ensure all lending activities comply with CRA regulations and internal policies.
Understand local market data and serve as a trusted advisor in lending opportunities with affordable housing programs and local housing grant programs.
Actively participate in community events, workshops, and outreach programs to promote the bank’s lending services and CRA objectives.
Work closely with internal teams, including credit, underwriting, and compliance to ensure a smooth loan process and adherence to credit policies.
Prepare regular reports on lending activities and CRA performance metrics for management and regulatory purposes.
Work independently to cultivate new mortgage business in the Tompkins Community Bank footprint.
Interview applicants to collect and analyze information regarding their income, assets, debts and credit data as well as their needs, and desires to assist in determining the best solutions available to meet their needs.
Promote and cross-sell bank services whenever opportunities arise and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Provide an exceptional client experience by managing customer expectations, responding to inquiries in a timely manner and providing accurate information.
Coordinate sales and product training activities with assigned retail bank branches, visiting the branches, participating in joint sales calls and sales meetings and other branch support activities.
Actively participate in department training.
Take applications utilizing the LOS/POS system and utilizing the bank mortgage data processing/document retrieval/core banking system.
Maintain and apply up to date knowledge of rules and regulations for compliance to internal lending controls, regulatory policies, and agency specifications.
Maintain knowledge of current industry practices and trends and mortgage laws and regulations by learning from more experienced sales personnel and by attending pre-approved continuing education training and seminars.
Actively participate in the business development activities of the bank including homebuyers’ seminars, home shows, Realtor trade shows, Realtor office meetings, Sales Blitz events and other home financing workshops.
Maintain a personal network of outside referral sources, such as real estate agents, builders, attorneys, accountants, financial planners, community organizations and other business professionals. Meet with prospects referred by these sources and obtain information to understand individual situations and mortgage needs.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associates degree in relevant field or equivalent in combined education and work experience.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in lending, preferably in CRA or community development practices.
Strong understanding of CRA regulations and community development lending practices
Position will require active Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) registration or secures registration within 60 days of hire to provide consumer and residential lending services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
A thorough knowledge of current lending regulations and procedures.
