Technical Writer

 

This position collaborates across teams and faculty at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center to write research materials (protocols and informed consent documents) that translate research and scientific concepts into Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials. May also write and edit manuscripts, education materials, user guides/manuals, handbooks, training materials, and grant applications while adhering to strict style and branding guidelines. The incumbent may also edit and standardize materials prepared by other writers or personnel. Reads journals and other relevant materials to become familiar with technologies, production methods, and other associated writing research needs. Applies relevant quality, regulatory standards, style guidelines, and best practices for readability and multiple writing formats.

 

A bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience will be required. If a candidate holds a PhD, experience will not be required.

Job Summary

Collaborates across units to write research/evidence-based materials that translate research and scientific concepts. Writes, edits, and standardizes a variety of materials and publications and adheres to style and branding guidelines. Reads relevant materials to become familiar with writing research needs.

Essential Functions

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; must demonstrate the ability to write and speak in public settings as well as ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including physicians and physician leaders. Must be able to independently draft, format, and proof-read internal and external documentation for clinical trials. Strong use of SharePoint and Teams; Creation and utilization of the electronic protocol & Informed Consent templates available internally as well as NIH/NCI templates. Must demonstrate ability to multi-task, prioritize to meet deadlines, attention to details and accuracy as well as time management skills and follow thru. A writing sample will be requested during the interview process.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary.
