STAFF ATTORNEY, LOW-INCOME TAXPAYER CLINIC (LITC)

The University of Pittsburgh School of Law invites applications for a full-time staff attorney position at the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). This position will begin on July 1, 2024, or sooner, based on the successful candidate's availability.

The mission of the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) is to serve the educational needs of our students and the needs of individuals and small businesses, particularly those in Western Pennsylvania, for legal services relating to federal and state tax issues. Funding for the LITC is provided by the Treasury Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

Qualifications include J.D. degree; admission to practice in Pennsylvania or willingness to seek admission to the Pennsylvania bar; experience in the field of federal and/or state tax law, and excellent supervisory and communication skills; the ability to work effectively with students, clients, and other constituents; and an interest in developing clinical experiences for students in the LITC and within a community that supports interdisciplinary collaboration.

Job Summary

Assists in litigating complex immigration cases before immigration courts, federal courts, and administrative agencies. Advises upper-level law students and assists in planning and teaching clinic seminars. Participates in community outreach events.

Essential Functions

Duties of the position include some classroom teaching; supervision of second-and third-year law students as they represent clients and participate in community projects; participation in activities related to the School of Law's tax law concentration; administrative duties relating to the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC); community outreach and working with our pro bono attorneys.

Physical Effort

As this is a sedentary position, little to no physical effort is required.
