UPMC Manager, Equipment Planning in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Corporate is hiring a Manager, Equipment Planning to join our team at Forbes Tower! This role will work Monday through Friday during daylight hours. At times, this position will require in state travel within the local and regional areas.

Under general direction of the Director of Planning and Design, the Manager of Equipment Planning will oversee and manage equipment planning staff, coordinate workloads, prioritize projects and act as customer liaison with the project management team. In addition, the Manager will be an active equipment planner and will coordinate with various departments and physicians to determine equipment needs to be installed as a part of hospital construction projects. Work closely with outside vendors, Biotronics, ISD, and supply chain management to ensure that equipment standards and specifications are accurately communicated to the architects and engineers for incorporation into the construction documents. The manager will oversee, mentor and train new staff and develop standards, processes, and templates to streamline departmental operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee departmental operations, staffing, hiring protocols, and performance management.? Coordinate and manage project workloads for the department.

  • Prioritize projects and staffing.

  • Provide departmental budget.

  • Train and mentor new equipment planning staff.

  • Develop equipment planning standards, processes, and templates.

  • Oversee multiple hospital campus equipment planning projects and reports out performance.

  • Work with the project management team and users to determine the equipment to be ordered for specific projects. This includes the type of beds, monitoring systems, equipment booms, special treatment lighting, etc. Review the equipment list with the responsible department representative to achieve sign-off.

  • Collaborate with architects and engineers and review their documents to ensure equipment is located and coordinated with drawings. ? Obtain equipment quotes and generate concept budget and advise the project managers.

  • Manage the acquisition, delivery, and installation of equipment for projects. Attend the construction meetings to understand the timeline and orders equipment to meet timelines.

  • Maintain an on-going knowledge of the current medical equipment trends, updating the procurement standards as needed.

  • Communicate with Supply Chain Management regarding new types of equipment and coordinate trials of new equipment with the clinical user.

  • Order all medical equipment for the projects and coordinate with the project management team to be certain that the equipment is installed correctly and in a timely fashion.

  • Communicate with UPMC Biotronics department to recycle medical equipment within the UPMC system as appropriate.? Provide consultation to other UPMC hospitals as appropriate.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of the existing facilities and their utilization on the UPMC campuses.

  • Collaborates with construction management personnel on Equipment Planning in the following manner:

  • Coordination with supply chain management personnel, outside vendors, contractors and design professionals to assure comprehensive satisfaction of the end user for all projects assigned.

  • Coordinates aspects of the projects' group 1, group 2, and group 3 equipment including design, planning, estimating, scheduling and installation services.

  • Develops and monitors the equipment project budgets. Communicates monthly budget status to project manager.

  • Works from and advises on the project schedule related to equipment deliveries with the Project Manager.

  • Reviews construction documents prepared by the A+E firms for accuracy, constructability, and value engineering ideas.

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Basic Science or related technical field AND five years of planning experience in a hospital setting or working in the hospital equipment industry or of seven years of business related experience

  • OR seven years of clinical engineering, supply chain or related experience AND four years of planning experience in a hospital setting or working in the hospital equipment industry or of ten years of business related experience.
