Laboratory Research Technician I

 

A Research Tech I position is available in the Al Diri lab of the University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department. The Al Diri lab uses multiple advanced techniques for the analysis and manipulation of the chromatin landscape in order to discover the molecular circuitry underlying eye development and disease.

 

Qualification of candidate: BS in Biology, Computational Biology, Neuroscience or related fields. Lab research experience during undergrad years is recommended. Working knowledge in coding, computational analyses and/or R programming is highly preferable.

Job Summary

 

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.

 

Essential Functions

Job responsibilities include preparing reagents and solutions, general lab duties (autoclaving, dishwashing), mouse breeding, weaning, identification and genotyping, collecting and analyzing experimental data using Excel and R, dissecting eye tissue and performing histological analysis. The candidate is expected to maintain professionalism in all interactions with lab and department staff.

Physical Effort

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
