UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center, is looking to hire multiple full-time Clinical Education Specialists to join their exceptional Nursing Education team!
Position Overview:
Clinical Education Specialists at UPMC Presbyterian are unit-based and will support one of the following service lines:
Operating Room
Critical Care
Transplant/Surgery
Neuro/Trauma
Cardiology/Medicine
In this position, you will serve as a professional registered nurse with the authority, responsibility, and accountability to deliver high-quality nursing education. Your primary focus will be on new staff orientation, continuing education, and providing ongoing support to the nursing team. The role requires strong educational expertise to assess, plan, and execute vital educational programs that align with clinical and patient care needs.
Candidates will be considered at the Clinical Education Specialist level which carries the following requirements:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Professional nursing certification is highly preferred
5 years of clinical experience in one of the following service lines (ED, OR, ICUs, transplant/surgery, neuro, trauma, cardiology, and/or medicine)
Nursing leadership or teaching/education experience is highly preferred
This role primarily operates during weekday daylight shifts, with the flexibility to engage with night and weekend staff as needed to meet the education requirements of the unit.
Responsibilities:
Lead quality improvement initiatives, utilizing research and evidence-based practices to enhance clinical care and drive positive outcomes.
Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring staff on best practices, evidence-based practices, and research activities.
Take on leadership roles in hospital-wide projects, contributing creative solutions to complex challenges and facilitating cross-functional collaboration.
Provide guidance for staff professional development and retention, while also contributing to clinical specialty courses and educational standards.
Build and maintain strong relationships within the department and across the organization through transparent communication and effective team-building.

3 years of clinical experience required
MSN or Masters in a related field is required
DNP is required if holding a Masters in a related field
BSN is required
Relevant teaching experience required
Leadership and project management experience is preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Registered Nurse (RN)
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
