Bioinformatics Research Specialist

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a Bioinformatics Research Specialist as part of the lab for the Director of the Solid Tumor Cell Therapy program.

The Bioinformatics Research Specialist will work as a computational biologist/bioinformatician who will focus on analyses of multi-omics datasets (with emphasis on single cell and bulk RNAseq, exome sequencing and imaging data) relevant to the study of immune cells in mouse and human cancer microenvironments. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with experimental scientists to assist their high throughput NGS project design, data analysis, and data presentation.

The incumbent will also be responsible for independent computation research projects involving methods development, novel algorithm development, and/or high-level data analysis of lab-generated and generally available datasets.

Assistance with grant preparations and staff training as required.

Job Summary

Applies scientific methodology to conceptualize, propose, and implement appropriate methodologies for statistical analyses. Maintains and updates centralized research awards database. Assists with grant preparations and clinical trial budgets. Develops and validates reporting data, validates data subsets of funding data, and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
