Accountant/Cost Accountant


Position Description

Kearfott Corporation is looking for an Accountant to join our team in Pine Brook, NJ. As an Accountant, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to: documenting all departmental procedures, starting with the monthly closing process. This person will become a valuable part of the finance team and enable cross-training of departmental responsibilities. The successful candidate will work closely with fellow team members and other business units to gather required information to complete assignments.

Essential Functions

  • Generate the weekly labor rollups and ensure all direct time charged is accurately posted to programs and work orders.
  • Review and resolve incorrect inventory transactions, aging work orders and program costing discrepancies.
  • Responsible for the month-end close process for cost accounting, inventory control and various other reconciliations as assigned.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of inventory levels and accuracy of slow-moving and obsolete inventory reserves.
  • Research and analyze posting errors, debit memos, customer issues, etc.
  • Learn the process of updating daily cash reports.
  • Supports finance during external audits.
  • Provides ad-hoc reports as required and work on special projects.
  • Assists with fixed-asset accounting, tagging, and auditing.
  • Locates fixed assets, photographs, and tags.
  • Willingness to cross train for different job responsibilities of various key personnel in accounting.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data in an ERP environment

Education & Experience

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of three years of general accounting experience required.
    • Relevant experience as per the essential functions.
    • ERP experience required; IFS preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new and different computer programs and software to enable efficient data gathering and analysis.
    • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., visa sponsorship is not available.
