ABOUT THE POSITION This is building maintenance and repair work at the full performance level utilizing several building trades skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, roofing, masonry and cement finishing. Employees in this class are assigned to work in buildings with responsibility for responding to the corrective needs of building structures, equipment and system components. Work involves prolonged awkward positions, the lifting of heavy objects and some disagreeable environmental conditions. Employees receive general supervision from a maintenance superior.

Temporary hiring bonus -- New employees to the City hired from open-competitive eligible lists are eligible for 15% of base salary as hiring bonus. 10% within a few weeks of hire and 5% after 12 months of satisfactory full-time employment. Employees must meet all requirements of Civil Service Regulation 31.88 to receive the bonus.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum Training, Education & Experience
The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. ANTICIPATED ELIGIBILITY Candidates who meet all eligibility requirements within three months of the application deadline (by 1/11/25) will be admitted to this examination. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list but may not be hired or promoted until all requirements have been satisfied.
1. EDUCATION: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience in the routine maintenance and repair of building structures, equipment and systems components utilizing two or more building trades skills including HVAC mechanical, carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, plumbing, or roofing.
Physical & Medical Requ rements
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Building Maintenance Mechanic if required by work assignment.
Other Requirements Equivalency Statement(s)
Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.
