University of Pennsylvania Associate Chair of Digital and Computational Pathology, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Clinician Educator - Senior Rank, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of digital pathology, artificial intelligence, and independent/collaborative research. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree. American Board of Pathology Certification, AP or AP/CP, is preferred but not required. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Teaching responsibilities may include medical students, residents, fellows and post-doctoral students.

Clinical responsibilities may include an anatomic or clinical pathology subspecialty.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include development of an independent or highly collaborative research program (as PI, Co-PI or Co-I) in the area of digital and computational pathology. Faculty on the Clinician Educator (CE) track at the Perelman School of Medicine are expected to develop and sustain a record of academic productivity, which includes involvement in collaborative and/or independent research efforts leading to peer-reviewed published works. Faculty on this track are also expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching while those with clinical responsibilities are also expected to demonstrate excellence in clinical care.

Department-wide efforts to increase digital capabilities are underway. In support of these efforts, the Division of Anatomic Pathology has developed a robust digital pathology program, established in 2019, and has digitized approximately 120,000 slides per year. We currently have three whole slide scanners, an archive of over 600,000 whole-slide images, and plans to onboard a new image management system with artificial intelligence capabilities in the next year.

The Associate Chair for Digital and Computational Pathology will report directly to the Department Chair and will oversee digital and computational pathology initiatives at CHOP. He/She will work closely with the Division Chief of Anatomic Pathology, Division Chief of Pathology Informatics, Associate Chair of Pathology Informatics, and Director of the Center for Diagnostic Innovation to implement and develop clinical, research and educational programs in Digital and Computational Pathology.
