THE POSITION

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Transportation? We have an opening for a Tradesman Helper that you will not want to miss! As a Tradesman Helper, you will have the chance to work closely with an Automotive Mechanic Supervisor or Highway Equipment Manager, assisting them in the repair and preventative maintenance of a diverse fleet of vehicles, construction equipment, and hand tools. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role will entail performing various routine manual tasks in the yard, including mowing, construction, and grounds maintenance. Assisting the County Bridge Crew may be necessary for general labor, concrete work, masonry, and re-bar duties. Additionally, responsibilities involve identifying equipment issues, conducting minor repairs, and maintaining motorized hand tools like chain saws, compressors, and mowers. Other duties include snow shoveling, walkway cleaning, and ensuring the exterior premises and building entrances are orderly. Performing minor repairs on fixtures, doors, windows, and carpentry tasks are also part of the role. Operating small hand tools, mowers, weed eaters, and hedge trimmers, as well as maintaining planting beds and trees, are essential. The job also involves using hand tools like shovels, rakes, hammers, and saws, along with motorized equipment such as power saws and compressors. Proper tool selection and maintenance, adherence to work methods, and reporting damaged equipment are crucial aspects of the position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position will require an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
