Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Commercial Credit Analyst to join our team. Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, you will conduct complex credit investigations and in-depth analysis on various commercial credit requests, including Commercial and Industrial (C&I), Leveraged (cash flow) Lending, Asset-Based Lending (ABL), and Commercial Real Estate. You will also have some exposure to US Small Business Administration (SBA) credit requests.

Your role is to support the Loan Department by providing timely and collaborative reviews of commercial credit requests, making recommendations to protect the Bank's interests, and preparing comprehensive credit analysis memorandums.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Works to ensure lending opportunities underwritten by the Bank are compliant with established policies and procedures, consistent with established regulatory guidelines and reflective of safe and sound banking practices.

  • Is deeply knowledgeable of all Bank policies and procedures. Offers suggestions on methods to strengthen or enhance policies, procedures or best practices.

  • Performs upfront screening and preliminary review of potential credit opportunities. Provides timely responses to designated loan officers regarding outstanding documents, missing information, key concerns / risks, policy deviations, etc.

  • Prepares comprehensive loan summary memorandums that are to be used by the Bank in making critical lending decisions on new loans, renewals, extensions, modifications, etc.

  • Reviews all pertinent credit and financial information.

  • Determines the need for more thorough investigation or additional information.

  • Prepares and analyzes financial statement spreadsheets, and other applicable financial information to identify relevant trends, patterns, issues, etc. relevant to the underlying credit risk of the transaction.

  • Prepares loan presentation summaries that present facts and offer opinions concerning the creditworthiness of borrowers and the acceptability of the collateral.

  • Identifies and communicates the relevant strengths and weaknesses associated with each credit opportunity that is reviewed or underwritten.

  • Makes appropriate recommendation to improve the Banks’ risk profile and protect its interest.

  • Remains current and engaged with all applicable legal, regulatory and compliance related changes that impact the Bank’s lending activities.

  • Updates applicable systems (e.g., LOS, Pipeline Reports, Underwriting Files, etc.) daily to ensure that all applicable credit and lending activities are current and accurate.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in using the Bank’s commercial loan origination solution, which is currently Abrigo / SageWorks.

  • Sound reasoning and judgment and capable of articulating concepts, thoughts and opinions effectively.

  • High level of technical proficiency with respect to the appropriate tools and resources that are used in the position (e.g., MS Word track changes and advance formatting, MS Excel pivot tables, advanced formulas and formatting, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, Sharepoint, etc.)

  • Perform site visits to the borrower when required by credit and lending.

Position Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting or equivalent training and experience, to be able to analyze financial statements and make evaluations.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated ability in C&I, Leveraged Lending, Commercial Real Estate and/or ABL loan analysis.

  • A high level of analytical ability to determine loan risk and recommend credit limitations.

  • Must be able to successfully work on multiple priorities while adhering to strict deadlines or due dates.

  • Ability to articulate thoughts in a clear, consistent and concise fashion (written and verbally).

  • Workout experience is a major plus
