Overview

Experienced Tool Maker needed! Oneida Molded Plastics (OMP) is actively seeking an experienced Tool Maker to join our team in Oneida, NY. OMP strives to build a production team with a high degree of talent. The right candidate for this role will play a valuable role in the Company’s future growth and will have room for advancement with a path of continuous improvement!

The Tool Maker will:

  • Build, rework, repair, and assemble a wide variety of special purpose tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and injection molds of original design, intricate types composed of a variety of metals and plastics.

  • Perform construction, troubleshoot, and repair activities on a wide variety of tooling, equipment, fixtures, and molds.

  • Maintain, inventory, and document all tool room supplies, mold supplies, fixtures, and related parts.

  • Coordinate with the Quality and Engineering departments to effectively resolve molding problems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and schedules all mold maintenance.

  • Uses various measuring and gauging tools to regularly inspect, clean, and test all equipment, tools, and machinesbefore, during, and after molding operations to ensure they are clean, arranged, and set properly to work efficiently.

  • Checks equipment and modifies machines as necessary to control speed, material feed, or path of cut as required to ensure a quality product is produced within specifications.

  • Diagnoses difficulties and performs repairs and modification operations of dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassembles molds, core pins, injector pins, jigs, tools, fixtures, and gages, then reassembles when repaired.

  • Repairs and reassembles dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassembles molds, core pins, injector pins, jigs, tools, fixtures, and gages, then reassembles when repaired.

  • Reads and understands blueprints and complicated schematics as required to create and build new fixtures, tools, and machine parts.

  • Works from drawings and verbal/written instruction including developmental procedures where information is incomplete or dimensions undetermined, including design, layout and development.

  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create designs and/or turn designs into blueprints.

  • Creates and builds new, replacement, and experimentaldies, molds, and tools as neededbased on specifications from design team, blueprints, or schematics. Including, but not limited to: molds, core pins, injector pins, jigs, tools, fixtures, and gages.

  • Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfection or damage that may affect functionality.

  • Maintains inspection and PM records.

  • Consults with supervisors and technicians each day.

  • Attends daily and scheduled production meetings.

  • Participates in production planning and processing as required.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Tool Makers report directly to the Shift Supervisor and have no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Journeyman Toolmaker papers preferred.

  • Ability to program and/or operate a CNC a plus.

  • Industrial production experience in a manufacturing facility preferred.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production-oriented environment.

  • Ability to multitask and willingness to cross train.

  • Ability to follow, retain, and communicate detailed instructions.

  • Ability to follow standard policies and procedures.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to manage time, organize, and prioritize work effectively and efficiently.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to keep production equipment operating, including on-call/overtime as needed.

  • Superior manual dexterity, muscular control, and delicate touch are necessary to complete precision work without damaging valuable molds.

  • Visual acuity to read blueprints and perform visual inspections.

  • Able to frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.

  • Ability to occasionally exert up to 50 lbs. of force, and/or consistently exert up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects.

  • Coordinated visual, physical, and mental attention required.
