SUMMARY Assists in shop activities by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain and wear the appropriate safety equipment as required; including but not limited to approved safety foot wear, safety glasses, hard hat with face shield, protective gloves, protective apron and/or other safety equipment for safe handling of material. Verify the safe operating condition of equipment, racks, and other devices used in the process. Report any unsafe conditions immediately to maintenance or supervisor. Repetitive heavy lifting and continuous bending. Maintain communication with and assist all co-workers in preparing and processing material. Assist crane operators in hooking and unhooking material as required. Maintain production schedule by locating raw material to be processed, loading and unloading material, removing miscellaneous debris prior to and after process, removing and/or banding material as required and locating area for finished product. Load and unload trucks as required. Assist kettle operators in drossing and cleaning work area as required. Verify quantity before and after process. If material is lost, immediately notify the appropriate area to locate and assist as required. Verify the quality of the material as per tag or work order prior to processing and the quality of the finished galvanzied product. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Miscellaneous duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Forklift license required, or the ability to obtain a license by passing written and and hand on tests for procuring future licensing. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to twist, reach, bend, push, pull, sweep, shovel, and lift. Lifting requirements include lifting various sized and shaped material from waist to chest height. Some floor to chest and overhead lifting required. Required weight range for two people ranges from 2 to 170 pounds. Work 8 hours up to 10 hours per day, 5 days per week and often 8 hours on Saturday is required.
