SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the nursing activities performed by RN supervisors, LPNs, CNAs and nursing non-licensed staff during assigned shift
Plan, assign and direct work
Appraise performance, reward, and discipline employees
Address complaints and resolve problems
Ensure patient acute needs are met
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive report from the off-going shift Nursing Supervisor and provide report to the oncoming Nursing Supervisor
Make routine rounds on all units at the beginning and end of scheduled shift
Perform data collection and assess residents as needed, within scope of practice
Assist with the interpretation of data and nursing assessments and take appropriate action
Ensure that the resident care plan is revised as needed; participate in MDS completion including CAAs
Ensure adequate communication of changes in resident condition
Perform employee coaching, counseling and disciplinary actions as required
Understand and follow all HIPAA Guidelines
Ensure appropriate staffing levels for all units, based on the approved staffing plan, through staff replacement and/or floating staff as indicated between units
Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions, i.e. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.
Take on-call as assigned by Director of Nursing
Other duties as assigned in accordance with policies/procedures, rules, regulations and guidelines to ensure adequate and appropriate nursing care to all residents
Complete Quality Assurance Audits as assigned
Assist and observe during resident meal time as able
Ensure that nursing personnel follow their respective job descriptions and facility policies and procedures
Intermittently monitor medication administration and nursing treatment procedures
Report, investigate and take corrective action for occupational exposures to blood, other potentially infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with established policies and procedures
Report, investigate and take corrective action for discrepancies in physician orders, medication/nursing treatment errors, documentation concerns, etc.
Complete all appropriate documentation with regard to resident, employee and visitor accidents/incidents. Notify all appropriate individuals and take appropriate corrective action
Respond to all resident, family, visitor and staff complaints and grievances in a timely and appropriate manner. Document all investigations and communicate information to Nursing Administration.
Review/report/investigate all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and misappropriation of resident property in accordance with established policies and procedures
Attend mandatory in-service education programs and continuing professional education as needed
Ensure timely and accurate completion of all resident admission and discharge documentation.
Demonstrate competency for adequately preparing all information and documentation needed for routine provider visits.
Demonstrate strong resident assessment skills
Comply with all Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center’s policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Current NYS RN License
Must be familiar with current NYS DOH Regulations and Federal Regulations
Professional experience in long term care preferred
