The Senior Director of Procurement and Supply Chain will be responsible for transforming seven individual local procurement and supply chain teams into a single strategic function serving the East Region of Optum Health. This is a large region and team comprised of $350M in annual spend, >300 suppliers, and >80 teammates. This function ensures high physician, patient, and team satisfaction by creating value in the form of savings, world-class procurement and supply chain support, industry leading solutions and shared services and industry leading product availability, total cost, and quality.

This is a high visibility role where influencing key stakeholders will be critical to success. The successful candidate must be passionate about customer service and a service first culture, driving value and performance improvements for the East Region and Optum Health, and must be effective at working in a fast-paced environment and confident in their interactions with a broad range of clients in executive and leadership roles.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assesses local and national programs

  • Understands external market and industry trends

  • Collaborates with Supply Chain operations leads to constantly engage on execution and strategy, aligning progress made to overall goal 

  • Assumes responsibility for change management of key initiatives across the regions and markets

  • Relentlessly and judiciously prioritize time, resources, and investments – can pivot and say no

  • Displays solid speaking skills with ability to know the measures & share with operations, business, national leaders, market presidents and finance

  • Communicates the strategy and vision effectively and drives the steps in the short-term to achieve the vision

  • Accountable to the East region for procurement, supply chain, and materials management performance and to the enterprise for strategy, people, operating model and KPIs

  • Deliver high customer satisfaction across strategic sourcing, procurement, and materials management

  • Enable industry leading satisfaction, total cost, product availability, and product/service quality

  • In collaboration with the enterprise and other regional leads, establish a regional Supply Chain Operating Model

  • Establish regional solutions, technology, policies and procedures, and shared services (Ex: Intake, contract repository, procure to pay, purchasing services, asset management, materials management, and origin to destination supply chain)

  • Enable supplier consolidation and supplies and services standardization resulting in improved cost, service, and quality

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of procurement and/or supply chain experience

  • 8+ years of healthcare leadership experience with demonstrated excellence in building high performing and engaged teams in a highly matrixed environment

  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage a scaled supply chain operating model with industry-leading solutions and capabilities

  • Proven service oriented servant leader focused on exceeding customer expectations with the ability to influence all levels of Care Delivery and Supplier organizations

  • Proven bias towards action and results with the ability to resolve conflicts and remove barriers

  • Proven excellent communicator verbal and written

  • Demonstrated ability to create value for customers in the form of savings, efficiency, and quality improvement

Preferred Qualification:

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze spend, identify opportunities, and communicate detailed expected results to partnering teams

New Jersey or New York Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $147,300 to $282,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
