Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Media Relations & Digital Strategy, coordinates and prepares all media guides/record books and marketing plans and information for assigned intercollegiate athletic teams. Assist with the department’s overall brand and promotion.

Essential Functions:

  1. Facilitates Information: This function finds its incumbent providing a full array of services related to providing information for intercollegiate athletics, physical education and recreation. By way of illustration and not limitation, this function:
  • Coordinate news releases, statistics and generate feature content and videos for NJITHighlanders.com.

  • Design graphics for video boards, courtside LED displays, website, social media, print/digital publications, signage and advertisements.

  • Develop content for social media and suggest creative ways to engage and promote the NJIT Athletics brand. Research audience preferences and discover current trends. Create engaging text, image and video content.

  • Assist in developing video content and digital media for the Department of Athletics.

  • Develop/edit content, which includes video, for the department’s and individual sport program social media channels.

  • Travel with select teams to away contests/championships.

  • Coordinate and prepare all media guides/record books for intercollegiate Athletics teams and makes available to all intercollegiate athletics publication media outlets.

  • Continue to develop growing relationships with key media members/partners (local, regional, hometown and national).

  • Cultivate story ideas to generate media coverage and social media interest.

  • Assist with the maintenance and development of content www.NJITHighlanders.com.

  • Suggest creative ways to engage and promote the NJIT Athletics brand. Research audience preferences and discover current trends. Create engaging text, image and video content.

  • Expand programming and content creation capabilities across print, video, broadcasts/streaming and photography.

  • Produce related articles for athletic website, the Vector, NJIT this Week and Next, and the Alumni News.

  • Research and prepare timely feature articles on University teams and student/athletes and have them placed in local, statewide and national media.

  • Work with the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics on the coordination of special events (e.g., Scholar-Athlete Recognition Night, Tournaments and Sports Awards Dinner).

  • Assist in developing and evaluating an annual media plan and an annual plan for marketing intramurals and recreation programming.

  • Work with the university communications office and the Division of Student Services (Vector, Calendar Committee, NJIT This Week, Web Page, Clubs, etc.) to fully disseminate information.

  • Coordinate with Athletics Marketing Coordinator on in-game events and marketing promotional efforts.

  1. NCAA Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations and policies.

Additional Functions:

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • Position requires work on nights, weekends, and holidays as well as overnight travel.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Media, Marketing, Communications, Sport Management, Visual Arts, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field is required.

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Premiere, Final Cut Pro, & iMovie.

  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in Sports Communication, Sports Video Production, Media Relations, Sports Journalism or Sports Information.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Motion Rocket and Display Studio (or related) scoreboard software and Arms Software.
