Zurich is currently looking for an Associate Middle Markets Underwriting Manager to support our production underwriting team! We are looking for talent to work out of our New York office. While this position will be based out of our New York office, you will have the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office one day a week for a team collaboration day.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of underwriters

  • Manage underwriting and rate strategies to promote profitable growth

  • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.

  • Support the organization's sales culture by being a trusted advisor for agents, brokers, and customers.

This role will be filled at either theManager Level I or II. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

Middle Markets Associate Underwriting Manager

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

OR

Middle Markets AVP Underwriting Manager

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaAND

  • 2 or more years of management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Advanced knowledge of line/s of business

  • Ability to manage and build rapport with team

  • Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills

  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines

  • 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience

  • Established Producer relationships

  • Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating

  • Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation

  • CPCU

  • Advanced knowledge of product lines and insurance industry

  • Excellent skills in relationship building

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Results oriented

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The salary indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The combined salary range for this position is $136,000.00 - $222,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Manager II is $136,000.00 - $181,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. For the Manager II is $172,000.00- $222,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
