Volunteers of America Staff Accountant - Cash Receipts in New York, New York
Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Staff Accountant - Cash Receipts (Hybrid Remote)
The Staff Accountant-Cash Receipts is a key member of the finance team supporting the organization's cash collection function, including validating, recording and retaining support for cash receipts transactions and maintenance of internal controls to safeguard agency assets. Provides support on cash receipt matters in accordance with Volunteers of America - Greater New York, Inc. policy and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in accounting or related field with one year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment is required.
- This employee must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work as a member of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
Staff Accountant (Cash Receipts) Principal Responsibilities:
- Validate daily deposits, cash transmittal logs, and batch headers from the programs. Code the batches and prepare cash receipts journals.
- Scan cash receipts documentation and upload support to Microsoft Business Central.
- Reconcile daily cash receipts to bank activity reports and statements.
- Notify programs and provide support for checks returned due to insufficient funds and advise on chargebacks and associated fees.
- Assist with daily cash receipts tasks, including sorting mail, receiving and tallying checks with accompanying batch headers and transmittal logs, preparation of daily bank deposits, scanning checks for deposit, and making deposits at the bank.
- Provide support for internal and external audit engagements.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of Volunteers of America-Greater New York policies and procedures to comply with regulations and safeguard agency assets.
- Provide support on financial initiatives and projects, and perform other related duties as required.
