The New York Times Company Senior Software Engineer in New York, New York

POSITION: Senior Software EngineerDescription:●Work as an individual contributor to understand and articulate the tradeoffs between technical, analytical, and product needs; ●Support manager in the company’s strategy to attract, hire and motivate engineers;●Build and maintain scalable systems; lead the technical excellence of the system and create plans to mitigate tech debt and outages;●Keep current on technology developments within The Times’ stack and learn new technologies in the domain quickly; evaluate new technologies and introduce new practices into the team;●Translate feature requirements into architecture designs or test plans and specific engineering tasks;●Review systems to provide guidance for improving design, reliability, maintainability, security, and scalability;●Own delivery of complex projects impacting multiple systems from technical design through to production operation.Job Requirements:Bachelor’s in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related and 5 years of experience.Must have the following experience:●Led at least one major strategic project for their organization, from discovery, design, development, to shipping, and scale optimization;●Contributed significantly to one or more major technical initiatives in their organization;●Demonstrates deep knowledge of object oriented programming in Java, or Golang;●Expertise with system design and architecture, with an emphasis on building for scale;●Expertise data modeling and working with transactional data using SQL based databasesystems; ●Expertise with Amazon Web Services (AWS);●Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery techniques and tooling;●Experience working with ecommerce/payment/subscription systems;●Experience with and Drone and Ansible.** This position requires regular participation in on-call rotations, and role holder may work remotely with manager approvalHOURS:Monday through Friday, 35 hours per weekLOCATION: 620 8th Avenue, New York New York, 10018SALARY:$170,000 - $175,000 per yearTo apply: Send resume with cover letter with salary requirements and reference code 7776677 to recruiting-submissions@nytimes.com.
