Job Description

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.

In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks experienced and enthusiastic Property Clerk.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Input request for property release into application.

  • Fill out and process request for supervisor review of deferrals.

  • Disburse ADA written response to claimants.

  • Reach out to property release unit ADA to address complications that arise.

  • Explain property release protocols and answer other related questions by claimant.

  • Answer phones and maintain accurate call log.

  • Interact with attorneys and civilians seeking to have property returned to them.

  • Check IDs and subpoenas of witnesses and walk-ins and direct them to the appropriate staff member, ensuring assistance is provided in a timely fashion.

  • Notify ADAs and Crime Victim staff of the arrival of witnesses and victims; and direct them to appropriate waiting areas when necessary.

  • Keep accurate and complete records of all witnesses in the bureau’s log book.

  • Verify ownership of property.

  • Perform routine office tasks such as filing, record keeping and data input.

  • Communicate with staff interpreters and assist Assistant District Attorneys to secure the assistance of an interpreter whenever needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualification:

An Associate’s degree or a High School diploma/GED and a minimum of two (2) years working experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization.

Qualifications

  1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. However, the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.

  2. Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English.
