THE VENUE

Legends is the official hospitality partner for the food service areas at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, a premier tourism destination in the heart of New York City. The partnership includes full quick service restaurant, an outdoor seasonal kiosk serving beverage and snacks and a lighter fare concept aboard the ship serving sandwiches and flat breads along with grab and go items. With the opportunity of serving up to 10,000 guests 363 days a year, Legends has created a culture of fast and friendly service at the Intrepid

THE ROLE

The Line Cook position is responsible for the preparation and cooking of the menu in a fast-casual space for Legends Hospitality at the Intrepid Museum. The Line Cook role entails positive interaction with the visitors and internal guests at the museum.

Responsibilities:

  • Grilling, operating fryers, preparing pizza, salads and sandwiches

  • Works to make a specific impression on our guests

  • Approaches all tasks with a “can-do” attitude

  • Presents a cheerful, positive manner

  • Must engage positively with teammates and customers

  • Shows initiative and takes action with an appropriate level of independence

  • Set up allocated stations for menu, as instructed by Kitchen Supervisor

  • Inventory product and prepare it according to management and health guidelines

  • Responsible for cleaning the equipment and cooking area

  • Maintain a prepared and sanitary work area at all times

  • Make sure all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately

  • Requires cooking experience and willingness to learn

  • Able to prepare and expedite food orders in a timely manner

  • Able to work in a fast-paced work environment

  • Able to read and understand food orders as they come into the kitchen and prioritize their execution

  • Must be able to multi-task and expedite multiple orders simultaneously

  • Assist with food delivery of items to dining area when needed

  • Grill and fryer experience a must, batch cooking experience a plus

  • Follows assignments for opening and closing procedures and food preparation

  • Organize and practice FIFO for all product in refrigerators, freezers and dry storage areas

  • Assist in putting away and organizing deliveries to the kitchen

  • Prepare food items by complying with portion size, quality standards, departmental rules, policies and procedures

  • Responsible for safety standards, neatness and sanitation of work areas

  • Ensures that proper food temperatures are maintained

  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance

  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen including shelves, walls, floors and drains

  • Participates as a team player with specific responsibilities as related to preparation, excellent service and delivery of product

  • Maintain proper sanitation for all dining and cooking utensils and cookware

  • Handles and cleans kitchen equipment carefully and safely to prevent damage or injury

  • Perform other assignments as required

Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidate will be ServSafe Certified or have NYC Food Handlers Certification

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • The ideal candidate will have a culinary degree or have graduated from a certified apprenticeship program with a minimum of 2-3 years of cooking experience in the an ala carte restaurant, a contract foodservice industry, preferably in premium services, catering, or concessions environments for a sports and/or entertainment venue

  • Experience in pizza preparation a plus

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment

  • Strong commitment to delivering a high level of customer and client service with demonstrated initiative and leadership

  • Customer service oriented with the ability to interact with all levels of management

  • Must be flexible to work weekends, nights and holidays

  • Must be able to work in a team environment

  • High level of organization and attention to detail

  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to make evaluations and decisions without immediate supervision

  • Must be able to accept and carry out responsibility for directions

  • Practice safe work habits, follow all safety policies and procedures and regulations, complete company-wide safety training and additional job specific safety training
